I hope the turnovers were just because it was a fast paced game or something. We have enough problems with Yao having turnover issues. I don't want more from Dorsey. At one point, Dorsey had only 5 less rebounds than the entire Cavs team. It was fun to see. (wish I could have seen the game live visually too)
Between Dorsey, Scola and (hopefully) Landry, we should get a lot of 2nd opportunities off of the offensive glass. Which is good with how our offense goes flat at times.
scolansey in my opinion is better than scolandorsey... ill wait til dorsey makes me respect him as an NBA player before i put dorsey's full name in scolandorsey... Scolansey ftw!
"During the 2007 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament, Dorsey famously called Ohio State center Greg Oden "overrated as a big man," said that Oden "might be as good as Joey Dorsey," and called himself Goliath and Oden the "the little man." Dorsey also predicted a 20 rebound game for himself. The Buckeyes defeated the Tigers by a score of 92-76 and Dorsey finished with zero points and just four rebounds. In fact, Dorsey was so overmatched during the game that he was not able to even attempt a field goal in the 19 minutes he was on the court. As terrible as he was on the offensive end, he was as bad or worse on the defensive end. Dorsey's defensive duty was to guard Oden. Oden shot 7 for 8 from the field for 17 points and also grabbed 9 rebounds." ----Wikipedia on Dorsey I found this very interesting. I hope he can take revenge on Oden when they meet in NBA.
No that story only lends credence to the Dorsey suckage story. If he goes up and plays Ohio State after shooting off his mouth like that end gets owned by scoring 4 pts and gets 4 boards against top flight NCAA competition, how is he going to do against to flight NBA competition. I maybe wrong but I don't think Dorsey is gonna come close to even touching Landry's laces.
For the record Landry vs Oden Feb 11th 2007 Landry 13 pts 9 rebounds 4 pfs Oden 14 pts 9 rebounds 4 pfs Mar. 10th 2007 Landry 24 pts, 2 rebounds 3 pfs Oden 17 pts 19 rebounds 4 pfs Dorsey vs Oden Dorsey 0 pts 3 rebounds 4 pfs Oden 17 pts 9 rebounds 4 pfs
Dorsey seems to have a penchant for trash talking and not able to back it up lol. http://scores.espn.go.com/ncb/boxscore?gameId=274000046 Tigers big man Joey Dorsey said Friday he was Goliath and Oden was "the little man." Score another one for David, as Oden held Dorsey to four rebounds and zero points, his first scoreless outing of the season. Dorsey also drew four fouls in 19 minutes. "My coaches told me about it and I was just like 'Dang, he just called me out," Oden said. "I didn't try to think about it. I just wanted to go out there and play my game and not let his comments get to my head. In the Big Ten, you have fans say it all the time." Conley said Dorsey's comments "affected us as a team more than it affected Greg." "When somebody talks about Greg, they're talking about all of us," Conley said. http://scores.espn.go.com/ncb/recap?gameId=274000046 Here they were, hadn't lost a game since Dec. 20, 2006, trying to become America's basketball sweetheart, the little Conference USA team that could and, hello, Dorsey decides to light a couple of verbal cherry bombs? "We were a quiet, under-the-radar team, you know, the underdog team," said Memphis guard Chris Douglas-Roberts, who was seated so close to Dorsey he could have nudged him with his shoe. "After that, it made us look like the team who's opposite that ... It was bad timing and it wasn't the right thing to say." You think? Dorsey and Oden chatted a little bit during and after the game. They even exchanged a quick postgame man hug. Weird, though. Dorsey said Oden turned to him after that first score and said, "C'mon, let's give them a good show." But when I asked Oden about it in the Ohio State locker room, he looked at me as if I'd just said, "Could you please sing the National Anthem in Mandarin Chinese?" Did he and Dorsey have that conversation? "No," Oden said. Did they talk much at all? "No," Oden said. Someone is suffering from memory loss, but I guess it doesn't matter. Ohio State and Oden move forward, Memphis and Dorsey return to flying below the radar. But before they left, the always-helpful Dorsey, while calling Oden a "great player," said that the freshman "needs to work on his jump hooks and everything." That might be true, but it sounded odd coming from the human O-fer. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/columns/story?columnist=wojciechowski_gene&id=2811600&sportCat=ncb
After finally watching the summer league game, I have a good feeling about Dorsey. The dude is very aggressive on the boards. A couple times he challenged the shot on his guy, and then swiftly recovered and went for the board. This is one of the little things that is the difference between an okay rebounder (like Yao, who rarely recovers for the board after challenging the shot), and a great rebounder (like Deke, who does this often). Dorsey's long arms are pretty evident when he's rebounding in traffic, and he had a number of vicious power dunks. Obviously the ft shooting was terrible, but his stroke doesn't look that bad. He doesn't have a hitch in his shot, he bends his knees, and puts some rotation on the ball. So it's kind of a mystery to me why he's SO BAD at the line. Hopefully somehow, the coaching staff can turn him into a bad FT shooter, instead of by far the worst FT shooter in the league. Then he'll be a pretty good guy to have on the bench.
Ummmm, Although I think he is a lunkhead......... I have to admit, I can see he has very good defensive "instinct" to be in the right place at the right time and to know when to go for the block, the position, or use his hands to disrupt and hold the opponent off. Also he has great rebounding box out presence, tremendous strength. His Achilles heal is going to be foul trouble. I would expect him to get better once he gets adjusted to the league. I just don't think he'll ever be as smart as Chuck Hayes. However he has great size. He could very well replace Hayes (as much as I hate to say it).
landry`s offense is obviously up to par with oden`s, but defense and rebounding is a whole different story.
Dude you are talking about a 6'9" PF going up against the best big man in 20 years in Oden. A true 7 footer big. The point I was trying to make was that Dorsey got owned and owned big time. Landry more than held his own. In the first game Landry equaled Oden's scoring and rebounding. In the second game Landry outscored Oden but didn't come close to matching Oden's 19 boards. But...at least Landry didn't get completely owned by Oden like Dorsey did. Landry is a better player and a class act. That high PER he had last season was no accident. Dorsey..my prediction is that he gets cut at the end of summer league and goes to the NBDL.
