Those comments seem to describe passive fans, not demanding fans. It actually sounds like you're describing the Grizzly fanbase

I grew up in D.C. and while I was too young to gain an understanding of the market for the Bullets, I definitely know that basketball is far bigger there than it is down here. I think the percentage of African Americans in an area relative to other races would play a big factor in the general attitude towards basketball. While Houston is diverse like most big cities, it's still part of Texas.

Then again, I suppose popularity of the sport among youths is different than the popularity among consumers so maybe you have a point. I just never got the impression that Rockets fans were relatively demanding.

I don't think they're as knowledgeable or basketball savvy as a city like Portland. They expect to see results so while they're passive in a way, they're going to demand change when things aren't adding up as quickly as they would like. And there's always pressure on management when you have corporate boxes to fill.

    Oops!

I thought the thread was about hiring bodyguards for Adelman and his coaching staff. :D :D

We're very lucky to have this dude, he's about everything I'd want from a coach. He should get extended asap.

I'm a little surprised that this hasn't been done already. You take the team that the Rockets had in playing the Lakers, especially once Yao went out and do you think that team under Van Gundy would have forced a Game 7? Hell no because for starters, Aaron Brooks wouldn't even be sniffing playing time if JVG was in charge. He probably would have brought in some old fart that had played for him in NY like a Strickland or a Ward.

Just give Adelman an extension for four more years, there are ten reasons for him to be here for four more years. You know that some people asked for four more years for doing nothing. :)

He might not want for 4 more years. From what he said, it seems he only wants to extend one more year. He might want to see what a healthy Yao can do.

I was joking about president or governor election. To me, the rockets should lock him for a long term extension because he is good, and not very expensive ones like P. Jackson, L. Brown. He should want to stay here for longer.

He definitely deserves an extension. No doubt in my mind.

Well. I guess I'm the @#$%& around here, but last time I checked, Rick Adelman wasn't 7'6", didn't command double-teams, and didn't put a team on his back in the 4th quarter. Which means he's just like any player whose team option we would routinely exploit.

He's a good coach. There are others we could hire if he left. Use the option.

I'm not really sure how much more security you need than having two years left on a contract that pays you several million dollars per season. In his last three years with the Kings RA was the highest paid coach in the association, making $20.6 mil.

I'm laughing my ass off right now. Remember that one dreaded season when JVG quit on the team and left. As soon as we brung Adelman in you guys trashed the hell out of him... now he's like a local hero.

I dont think there's anything to worry about here. I think Les and Morey are way too smart to let Adelman walk. Rockets have had their best regular seasons since the Championship days. If for the last 2 years, we had a healthy TMAC and YAO, there's NO DOUBT that we would have made it AT LEAST to the conference finals.

I think the Rockets will end up waiting for the end of the season only because of a possible lower salary cap so they know how much is in their budget to go after free-agents.

If you guys really want Adelman to come back, you better hope McGrady has a good year and regains his form. He is the teams key to success especially next year when Yao comes back.

Nothing against Adelman, but I'd like Thibodeau to be coaching this team in the future. That would be good for our defense, and good for Yao.
