If Berman reported it...you can almost guarantee it is true...his track record is good.

Why isn't this stickied? I didn't see it until now.

Great news. Here is the Rockets Salary Cap situation now http://www.geocities.com/micah1j/

As you can see we will not be under that cap until 09/10 when we only have Yao & T-Mac under contract.

In addition, the max salary per year goes up with his tenure in the league, so he has a great chance of locking up a max contract at the end of this one with a starting salary even higher due to his tenure.

Great move by the Rox and Yao.

Knicks are way over the cap with no stars. Lakers are over it with one star. So are Dallas, Portland, Boston, Minny and Memphis. All NBA teams would love to be over the cap with T-Mac and Yao. The only reason that Phoenix, Miami and Cleveland are not way over the cap is because their superstars (Amare, Wade, Lebron) are on their rookie contracts.

I don't know any other team in the NBA, with the possible exceptions of Detroit and San Antonio that are in as good a financial situation as we are. Pistons will have to pay Ben Wallace and Tayshaun Prince really soon.

We have three key players under contract who are being paid below market value (Swift, Anderson, Mutombo). Once we get rid of our expiring contracts, we will be the envy of the league.

No offense to Clutch but Berman is a professional sports reporter with good contacts and a good reputation. It hasn't been stickied because it broke on the weekend and the mods are still sleeping.

And he's apparently looking for a new place to live.

Can anyone photoshop a pic of Yao in a Laker's jersey just for fun, it'd be funny to post it on REalgm saying that's the closest they'll ever get. :D

I guess it's not yet sticky because there's really not much to talk about in this thread. It's not a surprise that Yao will sign the extension, however, if Yao decides to stay put, that would definitely be a surprise and definitely going to be a sticky thread.

The reason why you haven't seen it in the chronicle is because they get their news from Clutchfans. It should be coming shortly.

So far I have not been able to confirm this with any online resources... nothing on Sina and Baidu either, they usually updated Yao news fairly quick.

Haha, I hated those "Yao to the Lakers" wishers, can't wait for an official confirmation on ESPN and other sport sites. But I guess Laker fans can't be too mad, I mean, they are going to sign Amare or Dirk anyways. :D :D

BTW, did you have to use a Karla Malone jersey? ;)

Great perspective. You really have to look at the whole picture to get a feel for where a team really is.
