imagine if we landed Jason Williams.

On the plus side, we can fill in Padgett's spot on the White Boy Super Squad.
On the bad side, I just don't see Jason and Bobby getting along very well at all.

But if they did get along, the Josh Howards of the NBA would get their well-deserved comeuppance. If anyone has that shot of Sura tackling Howard for sh!ts-n-giggles, you know what I mean.

He can confirm that he's signed. Are all of these other free agents saying that they aren't signed with these teams that they agreed with. More likely he's still holding out hope that a sign and trade gets worked out. If not then he'll probably sign with Memphis on tuesday.

Yes, but that was very early on in the off season, Swift could have EASILY waited for a lot longer and shopped around more to get more money.

I think T-Mac and the Rockets really sold Swift on Houston, that was the edge we had in the chase after Stro, and it worked.

I'm not sure why Portland is being so sketchy w/ S&Ts. They're gonna end up losing SAR and DS for nothing, I thought it would be feasible for them to get back some veterans (Wesley, Sura, James, Howard) or atleast a TE + some picks.

It seems like they want a 1st Rounder to complete a deal. I'd give them Spoon + Wesley + Future 1st for DS + Patterson.

I think the Rockets would have done that trade a while back if they were indeed offered Patterson and DS for our trash + Wesley + useless 1st round pick.

Still, any deal with Portland I would hold out for DS and DA, Patterson is very good (and underrated in my book) but he wouldn't be as utilized as DA would be. But regardless, I would take Patterson and DS for what you have just mentioned in a heartbeat.

I wonder if this rumor got started by the Rockets AND Stoudamire.....to try to scare Portland into at least getting SOMETHING in return instead of nothing. Maybe its just me, but I think that whats happening.

Reading between the lines, DS said his agent talked to Memphis ONCE!......I didnt know that you throw out an offer on the 1st visit. Damon hasnt even talked to them, and he had the "red carpet" rolled out for him here a few weeks ago.

He wants to be here, and I wouldnt be surprised if he told Portland "Trade me to Houston and get something in return, or I'll go there for cheap and beat your ass 4 times a year!!!"

Seems to me the stumbling block with Portland is they want a backup power forward, hence why the only reports out there say the Rockets have offered Weatherspoon and Juwan Howard to the Blazers. But our power forwards do not look too appealing to them due to Howard's contract and Spoon's suckiness. I doubt they are interested in any of our guards since they are already pretty stacked with guards.

I think our best shot at getting Damon is to find a 3rd team that will either absorb a contract so the Blazers don't have to take back any salary or a 3rd team that will trade a backup 4 to the Blazers in exchange for one of our guards.

    Grizzlies sign guard Damon Stoudamire

    August 5, 2005

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- Guard Damon Stoudamire on Friday signed a four-year contract with the Memphis Grizzlies, who traded Jason Williams and Bonzi Wells earlier this week.

The 10-year veteran spent the past eight seasons in Portland. He is coming off his best season with the Trail Blazers, averaging 15.8 points and 5.7 assists and shooting 91.5 percent from the foul line.

``Damon is an experienced veteran and proven leader on the court,'' said Jerry West, the Grizzlies' president of basketball operations. ``We feel we have added a significant player to our team and know that he will help take us to a different level than where we are today.''

The 5-foot-10 guard was drafted in the first round by Toronto in 1995 and was the 1996 rookie of the year. He was traded to Portland 49 games into the 1997-98 season. He left Portland ranked second behind Terry Porter for career 3-pointers and third in assists.
