actually, if portland really doesn't want to sing and trade with us, that means that they really don't want anything that we are offering. to me, that's a good sign, getting dwes and/or sura (+ filler) could be a decent trade for portland. howard might not even be too bad. if i may speculate . . . CD and JVG have put thier thinking caps on and are offering expiring contracts and pics only (possibly NY second) portland wants a player and is nixxing our offers. Either way we get DS . . . LLE or by trade.

    Staud/james/sura/head
    sura/wess/jb/head
    tmac/jb/sura/bowen
    stro/howard/ bowen / LLE
    yao/deke/ LLE

subtract any combination of mooch/ward/vin/cspoon with a sign and trade to portland

**LLE in this scenario should go after a 3rd string 4 or center since Scotty left us for reallllly hot weather.

I would go to war with that group. I am surely waaaay off on my speculation, but its nice to dream.

I'm glad he hasnt signed with Memphis. With all of the old and inexperienced point guards(Mark Jackson, Andre Barrett, Rod Strickland, Charlie Ward, Tyronn Lue) we've had the last 2 years, I dont see how you could not want Stoudamire.

I bet his agent is the one spreading around these rumors so that he can up the price of his client, and get Houston to bite.

If we can't get DS for $3.5-$4 mil per, then I don't want him.

The original DS to Memphis article came from the Chronicle. That leads me to believe that it was probably DS's agent's doing. If it was Portland or Memphis leaking the story, our paper wouldn't have gotten it first.

Or there's the more insidious angle that it was actually the Rockets that leaked the story, thereby threatening the Blazers with losing DS for nothing. Of course that doesn't make that much sense either because if I'm Portland, I'd rather just let DS go than take on the likes of Spoon in a trade.

    It's just a weird situation all-around.

as I said about five times before

good luck in Memphis Damon- I hope that extra million a year is worth wasting the lats productive years of your career playing 18 mins a night for a .500 team in a smaller market city

if you want to play here, take the damn 1.7 million offer from the Rockets and let move on !

PS - BIG props to the Houston media for getting in his face about this - he wants to play here, he's a free agent, and then this stuff with Memphis ?!?!

Before the Chronicle article, the rumor was on ESPN and in the online community in Portland.

that is correct - the Origonian writer, John Casuriawra (something) has a blog and said "mystery third team"

Yeah I know that the Portland paper mentioned the "mystery third team", and Chad Ford mentioned DS leaning towards Memphis. But if I remember correctly, the Chronicle was the first to run "Stoudamire signs with Memphis". That must have come from somewhere. I don't think they'd just print that based on these rumors. They must have gotten a confirmed leak from somebody in the know (most likely DS's agent now that I think about it).

I really think that DS needs to step up to the plate like Stro did and just accept the LLE IF (a big IF here) the Rockets get shut down completely by Portland on a SnT deal. If M.Mouse wants to be a winner, and has passion for winning, he needs to show it NOW, or otherwise it means that his eart isn't really in it, and he is enticed by nothing more than who will give him the best financial deal, even if he gains nothing more than a couple of million bucks a year at best from another "lesser" team, in a much "lesser" town than Houston.

Does DS know that weed is pretty cheap in Houston these days? ;)

Anyways, as for whom IMO leaked that "DS signed with Memphis" rumor, it makes a lot of sense to me that DS's own agent might be the culprit here, it is the Scott Boras tactic that has gotten his clients lots of money over the years. So that's my own spin on this.

That is all good news because that means that we still have another option available and we still have a good point guards interest. This is exciting. I hope we can work something out.

I agree - I can't believe people are bashing a former rookie of the year, who
averages like 6-7 assists per game, becasue you are worried that someone like Jason Terry might post him up - nevermind the fact the fact that Jason Terry couldn't post up a 4 year old and the only PG who has a post game is Gary Peyton

Maybe David Aldridge was the one that broke the story that he is going to be in Memphis. :p

I know this has been discussed with other players but could he be signed to a 1 year deal then given a bigger deal when the expiring contracts come off the books? I dont know if Damon would agree to that though.
