I don't know why people are upset about the Bowen signing. We need a role-player, especially big man, and Bowen played solidly in his role in the playoffs. We need guys like that, Chucky Brown-type players.
There's no explaining needed. They have Barry and Dikembe's bird rights, they're going to make more money then Bowen, so they're going to have to wait to re-sign those guys until we make all of their moves. Bowen's contract isn't going to have any effect on the Rockets cap, but Barry and Mutombo's would.
Correct, minimum contracts don't count against the Luxury Tax in the new CBA so this is an easier signing than Barry or Deke.
Has there been anything saying he's getting the minimum? Sure he doesn't deserve much more than that, but he got the minimum last year so you'd think they're going to give him a little more next year. One thing that gets me is why we didn't wait to see if we could get a player like Finley instead of Bowen. Now unless we can unload Moochie/Vin/Spoon/Ward, that seems to be shot down and we have no room to give Baxter/Glover a chance to play. I agree with most others, he's good to have, but as a last resort. Wait until we get JB and Deke signed and go from there. Bottom line to me seems to be when we signed him, not who it was we signed. I'm happy to have him back, but on my list of priorities he's waaaaaaay at the bottom. Pugs
If we gave him more than the minimum then we used the LLE or part of. I seriously doubt we did. The minimum goes up each year for years of service in the NBA Bowen made about 807K last year and now will make around 900K. That is a nice pay raise (93K). I would take it
This is good, Deke and JB are not going anywhere, but if I was David W, Charlies, Spoon, Moochie..don't buy a house this next two weeks.
DS, I think we will be waving some players. I wouldnt be surprised if some of the players such as Baker, Moochie, Ward are waved, regardless of the fact they are expiring contracts. Even though they are expiring, no team wants them. They dont have value. Wesley is the only "legit" expiring contract we have on the books that might be considered at asset. James too I guess since he has talked about "opting out" of his deal after this season.
You bet that Cuban would want those expiring contracts for Finley. Or New York would want them for Allan Houston.
So far, all the moves the Rockets have made this summer seem to place an emphasis on defense. Signing Swift (a shotblocker), drafting Luther Head (who's defense they raved about), and now signing Bowen. I like it. I just hope they can acquire a defensive stopper at the 2, that has some size, like Buckner. That way we'll have a defensive specialist at every position. Mutombo Swift Bowen Buckner Head
I'm thinking this is their way of saying Badiane ain't ready, and they're not signing Baxter. Or Glover. I just don't think there are enough roster spaces for any of those guys.
Badiane not making the team?????? With the shutdown tactics he put on his own offensive game in the Summer League, he would have been a shoe-in for R.O.Y.
