This post is idiotic crap if you ask me. Quit wasting server space to pat yourself on the back. I'm embaressed for you.
If we matched Posey's offer, it would cost us DOUBLE the amount of the contract, due to the luxury tax. Cap-wise, it would only count as $6 mil, but money-out-of-pocket-wise, $12 mil. That's a buttload of money for Posey.
That's bull$hit. No one knows the exact amount that will trigger the luxury tax next season and even more, no one knows if there will even be one! That's a bunch of corporate crap being fed to us and I will take no more of it. More respected posters than I have stated that on lots of of other threads. Posey is being let go on the premise that we * MIGHT * (that's the keyword) MIGHT have to pay the luxury tax if we match the Grizzlies' offer. I really can't stomach that.
So you agree that Posey is a starting caliber 3, but don't think he is worthy of a MLE contract? Couldn't agree more with Rice/Mooch for Grant, though.
Agreed....according to posters who deserve much more respect than most, the luxury tax has NEVER come into play.. Why worry about it at this point? I really liked Posey, and feel we need him..the 6mil average salary is a little scary..(borderline on overpayment) but if I was Les...I would suck it up and pay the man...unless they have something else in the works that brings us a better SF. Maybe they are working on something and if it doesnt work out before the 15 dayas are up..they will match. We can only hope, cause without him or a major move....we are sooo weak at the 3.
The bottomline is that the people who knew what the situation actually was did what they felt was the best decision at the time. Period. What you think is irrelevant because you, like I, don't know Jack Schitt about how EG, KT or MoT felt or how either guy would have responded to benching or increased playing time or how those guys responded behind the scenes. You always chide posters (especially people who suggest "inside" info) for confusing their conjecture and feelings with fact and reality. Unless you personally know KT, your post is mere conjecture. What we do know is what the Rockets brass said publicly and what actions they took. You can daydream all you want about how you would have just benched player B and told him to suck it up all you want. But in the end, it is just a daydream. Rudy, CD, KT, EG and MoT had to deal with the reality.
Hey, does anybody remember when Pike was on Star Trek? I hope this isn't a sign of things to come (injured reserve).
I like this pickup, Eric is a great shooter. I've been to many clipper games and he was the backbone of that weak clipper franchise. He will complement well for Yao when he gets double team. Pike is a great sharpshooter and still has some game in him. I just wonder if he'll be a starting SG or fall into SF w/ Cat being around. Go Rockets!
Posey has shown his potential here and Im sure the Rockets want him back..but the question here is ..how much does he want to play for the Rockets? He doesnt seem to be heartbroken about leaving. I like Pike...
Berman on Fox 26 interviewed Piatkowski from his home in Omaha, Neb and basically said he was looking forward to playing in Houston. That he would space the floor with his shooting ability and that he needed (or would benefit from) players that would command a double team like Yao or especially Steve Francis. He would get open shots if they doubled or Yao and Steve would score if they didn't. He said it was difficult to leave LA after nine years but that he and his wife were looking forward to Houston with the "great players, new arena and great coach". He probably said more but that was all I remember. He'll be in Houston tomorrow and it's a 3 year deal but did not disclose the terms. Berman also said Steve Francis was still under consideration for the USA team according to a USA spokesman (I guess the decision was not final although VC has been reported to be the leading candidate) and Francis's agent said he would play for his country if invited. Houston Native
Piatkowski for three.........SPLASH!!! ...and to those of you questioning whether the Rockets would really be making a "big splash" this offseason, I give you Eric "The Big Splash" Piatkowski!
Looking at the clippers board. It looks like Pike is well liked player and individual. Here are some of what they say: I was hoping that Pike would stay with the Clippers...darn...he would of been great under the Dunleavy... It's a sad day for Clipper fans. I've really liked watching Pike grow up with this team. His contributions on and off the court will be missed. He always seemed to hit timely long range shots, played his role within the team well, and kept the defence honest. Seems like a real good guy to boot and will be missed by this fan anyway. Good luck Pike! Indeed, for me and all Clipper fans, a sad day. Now we've lost our best gunner and a capable backup at both SG and SF. I'm disappointed because Pike was the closest thing we ever had to a "lifer". He also was the best shooter on a horrible shooting team. I wish him the best in Houston and hope he benefits from the in-out offense they should run with Yao. Pike was our best role player…and that’s on a team that needs role players. He was smart, effective, and knew his abilities and limitations out there. He’ll be missed (and he’ll help Houston). Elgin missed up and played hardball and cost the clippers its best shooter and somebody who is a real team player. I'm sure he realized that if he hung tough the Clips would have gone for the extra year, but I'm guessing he was sore "his team" put him through this type of hardball negotiating. Although it hurts me to lose the Pikester, I understand his feelings. Besides, I can still follow the lad, and he's on an interesting, and promising team. Pike will be sorely missed. We just lost our only real vet. I NEVER worry about Pike jacking up ridiculous shots or playing selfishly. Pike never really got the the minutes he deserved and he seemed to be a model teammate to have on your side I'm sorry to see Pike go even though it is probably in his best interest to do so, Pike has since then carried himself in a professional manner and played team basketball when it would have been easy for him to be selfish in showcasing his talents to other teams. While I never considered him "Mr. Clipper" he was a valued member of our club. Pike is definitely a valuable asset to any successful franchise if used properly. How can arguably the league's best pure shooter not be?
A nice pick-up by the Rockets for #52. He seems the perfect player for the Rockets. Reading what the Clippers fans (who are very familiar with him) say about him, makes make feel excited about him joining our team. He is a sharpshooter, team player, unselfesh, doesn't jack up shots, smart , efficient, very professional and good person on and off the court. Welcome to the Rockets Pike....
Well, he knows its a business decision if we dont match. I wonder though, will he miss his starting role? From what I have heard, he isnt likely to start for the Grizz. Maybe he should have taken the offer from the Rox.. I wish he would have, but thats water under the bridge at this point. and for the record...I like Pike too..especially after reading what the Clips fans are saying about him...just the kinda guy we need coming off the bench. also...speaking of records...I have been around this board since well before the move to the .net address...and this is the first thread that I have ever had with this many replies..It made the hot topics section....woot!
your post is meaningless. you basically said...hey you are a daydreamer. whatever dude. I don't daydream about basketball. try to make a point with me next next and stop dismissing it so worthlessly.
ok, that was too quick. my point is that I talk about what a have a feeling about. Never in any of these posts in this thread did I blame anyone for anything. I was just talking bball. and what did you do...you lectured me about some over my shoulder interpretation of how i talk about bball. look... screw that. I answered your question....and many people agreed with my take. I did not "chide" you personally. get off it dude.
I was curious about something, heypee. If we had kept Kenny and made the playoffs (which I don't doubt, for the reasons you gave earlier... even though I really liked Posey on the Rocks and hope we still keep him), wouldn't we still have owed Memphis a lotto pick this past draft regardless? If true, it would have been a major complication, although one I'd gladly have to get the playoff experience.
Yep. I agree...but I will miss Posey! I like Piatkowski though. He's a good role player.....exactly what we need. Just think about all the wide open jumpers Francis, Mobley, Piatkowski, Rice, Griffin, and Yao better be making from passes inside by Yao and Mo Taylor and penetration.....
