I wonder if cutting away from the asskicking Obama handed republicans on Friday and not being concerned enough to even show today’s O&A with Democrats helped lead this rise in Faux poll numbers?

People are making too big of a deal about the Massachusetts senate race. Coakley was an idiot and its hard to vote for idiots (bush being the exception) regardless of their party affiliation. She called Curt Schilling a "Yankees fan" for god sake.

    Fox leads for trust

Americans do not trust the major tv news operations in the country- except for Fox News.

Our newest survey looking at perceptions of ABC News, CBS News, CNN, Fox News, and NBC News finds Fox as the only one that more people say they trust than distrust. 49% say they trust it to 37% who do not.

CNN does next best at a 39/41 spread, followed by NBC at 35/44, CBS at 32/46, and ABC at 31/46.

Predictably there is a lot of political polarization in which outlets people trust. 74% of Republicans trust Fox News, but no more than 23% trust any of the other four sources. We already knew that conservatives don't trust the mainstream media but this data is a good prism into just how deep that distrust runs.

For Democrats the numbers are a complete opposite- a majority trust all of ABC, CBS, CNN, and NBC while only 30% have faith in Fox News. Continuing the trend in our polling over the last few months that independents hate everything, a plurality of them distrust all five outlets we looked at.

NBC is the most popular choice among Democrats at a 62/17 spread. Although 'NBC News' was the entity named in the question it's possible respondents could have been lumping MSNBC in with it given the good numbers on the left. At a 17/69 spread CBS was the least popular with Republicans, perhaps indicating residual unhappiness from the Dan Rather days. CNN finished second among Democrats, Republicans, and independents suggesting that it may be the least polarizing of the major tv news operations.

These numbers suggest quite a shift in what Americans want from their news. A generation ago Walter Cronkite was the most trusted man in the country because of his neutrality. Now people trust Fox the most precisely because of its lack of neutrality. It says a lot about where journalism is headed.

That just shows how far out of the mainstream the majority of posters in this forum are.

That's because the mainstream in America, unfortunately, is stupid. They're suckers. They get drawn in by fancy phrases and ridiculous claims and shout down people who try to show actual facts. I'm sure you didn't bother to read what Rashmon posted as it's a bit more counter to what you believe, but give it a try: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/8474611.stm . More specifically, the Bush/Gore example given.

Besides, if you really think a network employing Glenn Beck's raving lunacy is trustworthy, I immediately question any judgement you may have.

Glenn Beck is an opinion based show on a news station, so is Olbermann. You know what you're watching when you tune into those shows.

You are correct, I am not. I used to give Americans a lot of credit as intelligent free-thinkers, but the more I follow political news, polls, elections, events, etc. (didn't do this until I got out of college), the more disenchanted I become with the inherent intelligence of the American people.

Our extremes are brighter than anyone else in the world, IMO, but our average citizen is a mouth-breathing yokel who presses the button their indoctrinated political talking head tells them to press.

And yes, I am arrogant enough to think I am better than these people.

That is all well and good
    but . . .
    responses like yours and TSchmal
    are the problems!

    Democrats need to answer question:
What's important? Being the better honest party that will thoroughly explain things to the American people and be ultra honest and the SMART people
    or
DOING WHAT THE F*** IS RIGHT FOR AMERICA

Get their fricking heads into the game
Rather than b*tch and moan about
how stupid folx are. . and how ingorant they are
and how they should be better
    they
Democrats . . .need to say
You know what . .IT IS WHAT IT IS!!!
    and
    NOW WORK WITH IT!!

This is a blast to Democrats. . .TIME TO CHANGE YOUR STUPID TACTICS
How stupid are they to continually do the ineffective crap they been doing!

Do you have any idea how F**KED up it is to even think this in the first place. And do you know what the end result would be? If we go down this slippery slope, I see a pretty bleak future for our country.

For someone who always likes to talk about his outstanding Rice education, wealth, socializing with the upper class, it's weird seeing you associate yourself with the 'mainstream'...
