FWIW, Stewart's schtick is to show clips of people on television saying and doing stupid **** and then, generally, clips of the same people saying or doing something contrary to the clip that was shown a few minutes before. He doesn't try to pawn his opinions off as news, in fact he takes great pains to point out that he is "just a comedian" and that it should be "real journalists" pointing out the stupid **** that ends up on his show.

That isn't lying at all and the "facts" presented on the show are definitely factual as they are usually clips of the horse's mouth running where it shouldn't be.

 

And then there is this third class...

People like SunsRocketsfan = Intellectually dishonest posters who generalize negatively about anything liberal and generalize positively about anything conservative. Don't actually want to think or learn anything because learning might challenge their political intransigence and might actually make them think rather than simply reacting.

 

The GOP is in bed with the liar. That's why Michael Steele, after saying Rush was an "entertainer" and his show was "incendiary" did a complete 180 and said:

"I respect Rush Limbaugh. He is a national conservative leader, and in no way do I want to diminish his voice."

Now would Nancy Pelosi or any prominent Democrat go on TV and apologize to John Stewart or call him a leader? I doubt it.

Liberals and conservatives are much more alike than anybody wants to believe.

Both sides have families and they work at their chosen craft in order to provide a life for their families.

Both sides have hopes, dreams and desires.

Both sides want what they think is best for society. The two sides differ wildly on what that is.

To generalize liberals and conservatives in such a base manner is not helpful. What we need is more cooperation. Things like your "analysis" will lead to less cooperation.

Actually you posted saying O'Reilly doesn't think of himself as a journalist and he called you a liar and then posted a quote with O'Reilly calling himself a journalist. Then you went to the "Don't you know who I am" card. He didn't need to call you a liar but you were wrong.

 

I apparently was wrong as to what O'Reilly refers to himself as. That was one sentence out of the many I posted in this thread.

All of the rest of my posts referred to those asses as what they are...entertainers.

Yet somehow that all got lost. I got branded as telling one big pack of lies. All for one incorrect sentence out of all the stuff I posted in this thread.

 

John Stewart doesn't claim to be the voice of the dem party while Rush does for the conservatives/GOP

O'Reailly pretends he only talks about facts

he even named his show FACTor and has the "No Spin Zone" tag line

that's why nut jobs and wingers spew BS they got from Rush and O'Reilly in here as facts

while people who refer to John Stewart's material as basically funny stuff but ends up having truth to them

 

Fair enough. I think you just lumped those folks all together because they have opposite ideologies, not because they're really the same. John Stewart and Bill Maher don't put out talking points and promote rallies and serve as a mouth piece for politicians the way Hannity, Limbaugh, and O'Reilly do. They're all political but they're definitely different breeds of dog out there. I think that was his point.

 

I still maintain that, as a conservative (albeit a moderate one), I understand that they are all entertainers and try to drum up viewers or listeners by saying outrageous things.

I haven't paid a single bit of attention to anything Limbaugh has said since 1994. None. I could not tell you a single thing he has said since then other than "more oxycodone please."

Same thing with O'Reilly about 4 or 5 years ago. I found that I disagreed with him a lot and did not find him entertaining.

I can proudly say that I have never watched a single episode of Beck. Not one.

I am much happier and saner for it. I recommend everybody do the same. We do not need to be told what to think. We can look at a situation and determine what the truth is for ourselves.

Actually, Rush is more clever than that. He has people telling him all the time that he is the "Voice of the GOP," etc., and always demures, putting on an act of false modesty for a few seconds, so get your facts straight!!!

I listen to him in the car from time to time, under the axiom of "know thy enemy."

You're right I didn't have too..There were a few other inaccurate statements I could have proven to be false as well, but I will leave it as is and move on.

I'm a conservative and was ripping my hair out in 1994 saying I couldn't listen to his crap.

I am honestly shocked that he is still around 15 years later.
