I am getting very tired of you calling me a liar. I have been on this BBS for a very long time. I have disagreed with a lot of people. None of them have blatantly called me a liar.

Knock it off. Either add to the debate or go away. All you have done is attack another poster personally.

    Jerk.

You may not like Refman and may disagree with him, but a liar, he is not - that's the realm of the basso's of the world. He has honest policy differences, and you'll gain a lot trying to view things from his eyes as a conservative. If you make the effort, you'll get a more rational and honest discussion with him than most here.

Thanks Major. I really appreciate that.

I have enjoyed the debates that we have had in the past on the BBS.

I echo this, and tried to give you rep for it, but I need to distribute some more rep points before I do.

I've seen a survey that had John Stewart as one of the top news sources for people in their 20s. That doesnt mean he's a news man either! So I could easily say this statement.......

and also tons of Liberals get their news straight from John Stewart and take it as fact. I saw the statistic for this and Stewart was like # 1 or 2 for the person most Americans go to get their news from. I will look for the survey.

I once saw the statistic that confirms everything I've ever believed about the other side. Trust me!

I totally agree with this: I don't think Refman is a liar, and I don't think resorting to name-calling will help us resolve anything.

Having said that, I think rocket3forlife2's point was made: that Rush, Beck, and O'Reilly do, indeed, paint themselves as "journalists" who report the "news", despite the fact that they tend to misinform as much as inform.

I completely appreciate you posting this. We have disagreed vehemently during this thread.

Those guys know they aren't journalists. Anybody that believes they are is a buffoon. I can put up a webpage, get a show about religion and call myself the Pope. That won't make me the Pope.

But I do see your point. We can agree to disagree about the responsibility of politicians via a vis the media.

I really don't think we're that far apart on this issue either. I agree with you: it is not the job or responsibility of the Republican Party to tell Rush/Beck/O'Relly that they are liars and should stop.

However, once their constituency starts to believe the lies, and begins to want to change policy based on those lies, I do believe it is the job and responsibility of the Republican Party to present the truth and then let the people decide.

In effect, they need to fight the lie, not the liars. And I don't see them doing that right now.

I have no problem with people who disagree with me, but people who lie to make their points should be called out everytime. You said O'Riley never claimed to be a journalist, but he admits to being a journalist constantly. Where did you come up with that? You're a smart dude, so I believe you knew you were lying.I'll be a jerk or what ever you want to call me because at the end of the day it doesn't change the fact that you got caught flat out in a lie.

It has been known for years. Glenn Beck, BillO, Rush and Hannity are idiotic commentators (NOT journalists) that mislead their viewers with propaganda, hype and other garbage.

Jon Stewart cannot be compared because even he does not take himself seriously. His show is more for entertainment value with some news, IMO.

People watch BillO's show and listen to Rush, and agree with their dysfunctional, irrational ideas like it is the spoken word of God.

"The Spin Stops Here." Are you kidding me? It's a ferris wheel on Faux News.

Actually, fox admitted they are not news in court and furthermore, on appeal, validated that there is no law preventing companies from knowingly spreading false or misleading news. You can legally lie.

I've been on vacation (lots of vacations this summer!), so I haven't read a lot of recent threads and the posts in them, but Refman's not a liar. While I ardently disagree with his take on Jon Stewart (I think he is absolutely brilliant, and does a service deconstructing the real BS behind news coverage from all the major news sources), he's expressing his opinion, which is what I thought we were supposed to be doing here in one form or another, on topics of interest and those not so interesting.

Although no formal study has been done I can guarantee you that the avg intelligence of a conservative will be a lot higher than a liberal. Reason being

Conservatives = Hard working americans that dont want a hand out. Personal drive to succeed and small govt. They do no want the govt running their lives. Believes in personal responsibility and hard work. Usually middle to upper class and classy people. :)

Liberals = Lazy Americans who just want a hand out. They turn to the govt wanting a free wide. Want to take from those who have. Looks for the govt to provide for them which is actually the hardwork of others. Usually lower class people who just complain and b**** about the govt and how they want more.

Although no formal study has been done, I've concluded that you are between the age of 13 and 17, if not physically, then mentally.

That's as biased as you can get. Have you seen the red states versus blue states broken into contributions to the GDP? And the same break down for states receiving federal aid compared to their own domestic product? It ain't pretty, and without spoiling it, those data don't support your old-skool picture about "conservatives" and "liberals."

Everybody works hard. I'm a liberal, and nobody can outwork me. And I get zero government handouts. What I do is, with my employer, pay a ton in taxes and healthcare that disproportionately goes to red state projects and the healthcare of slovenly fatties with ice-cream infused arteries and a penchant for thinking Glenn Beck's fat face is worth watching.

    So, basically, there. :)

I'm sure if a formal study was done, it would back up your conclusions. They seem perfectly reasonable, and well thought out.
