IC2000, you're not blaming Mario Williams for whatever the Texans DID, right? I hope you're not saying that it's Mario's fault that the Texans picked him. What you meant to say is "Thank you for [picking] Mario [Williams], Texans." After this season, they will be in the top five in sales again. Why? THIS is a BIG city, man. It is not a small market compared to many other cities with NFL teams.
This just goes to show you that nothing else matters in the NFL except WINS. The Saints are getting a lot of publicity for Bush... but if they weren't 2-0, the pulse in that city (and the nation for them), would be decidedly less. The Vikings were supposed to be a horrible team this year... now that they're 2-0, they have everybody excited. The Bears brought back the same punchless, no-offense group that got smoked in the playoffs (at home) last year... now they've beat up on two of the WORST teams in football, and everybody is going crazy over them. Seriously... wins dictate everything. If you still want to watch the game, go to the 100's of sports bars around that carry NFL sunday ticket.
I'm certainly not excited that we suck but it doesn't hurt my feelings to see those empty seats. Hopefully next year it will encourage us to do a better job of scouting. First off, they should have done a much better job checking on DD's knee. They were obviously ill prepared to have him lost for the season. That created a huge void at running back. Now we are grasping for the likes of Ron Dayne, Gado and Lundy for help in the backfield. That's an obvious hole that like it or not Bush would have helped. Carr is the second highest rated passer in the league but he's only played a good first half against Philly and a good second half against the Colts. I'm not blaming him though so i'm not saying VY is a need. However, I'd rather have him then Mario. I'd also rather have D'Brick. Mario just doesn't seem like he's going to be great. He may be ok, but he just doesn't seem to have it. I like Ryans, Daniels, Spencer...ect. Bottom line, we screwed up with the first pick it seems. I hope Mario makes me look stupid but i certainly don't see it. Oh, and just because we made a ton of money since our inception doesn't mean we want to start losing it. Drafting Williams may be one of the worst marketing moves in history. Do you think the Bulls would pass on LeBron to get Dwight Howard (when they had Michael and Scottie already)? Even though you have to address needs there are certain players you don't pass on. That is why the Saints have two starting running backs (and their owner wanted to get paid).
Can we actually see evidence of these unsold tickets? I've been asking for it for months, and the haters still haven't provided it, other than "I got an email that" and all that garbage. In case you didn't know, the NFL has a rule that if a game isn't sold out by the Thursday before, it's blacked out... there hasn't been a Texans game ever where that has happened. And no, empty seats does not equal unsold tickets... sorry. All the available evidence points to the Texans having no problem whatsoever selling tickets... wanna counter that? Fine. But bring hard facts, not baseless generalizations. Second, FOX is dumping the Texans in one market? Great. Guess what? After this week, the Texans won't have any more games on FOX the rest of the season. So it's basically irrelevant. But I'm sure this would all be different if we had Reggie and his 5 yards on six carries. That would excite the masses.
www.ticketmaster.com- click on any texans game. Tickets are available !!!! Go to ebay and buy any tickets in the stadium for under face. This organization is a joke!
Being here in SA, only FOX has dropped the Texans. Most of the games are on CBS anyway so we will be getting the future games (unless our record is similar to last years).
I got stopped by the cops for a moving violation and had only a juice box for breakfast. This quote made my day. Thanks D.
Yes, agreed. This is the bottom line. It's week 3 but the Texans had better win this game or else some fans excluding myself may start staying away from Reliant and that would be a shame. Kuby should hang this in the locker room where the DL is. Forget national embarrassment, getting punk'd by SA for ratings is pretty embarrassing. It's not like this is El Paso, this is practically in our backyard. Winning cures all ills. Kuby knew the honeymoon was pretty much over here in H-Town and welcomed the challenge nonetheless. Cant complain about the national media giving the Texans no love. As of right now, saying we are only better than the Titans and the Raiders doesnt mean much. The Texans have to accomplish something more than four times a regular season to get recognized. Where's the Texans Pride?
This really pises me off, im from houston but just started college in san antonio. I love watchin the texans (even though they piss me off), now i feel like goin home for the weekend to watch the game.
I'm normally the model of restraint on this board, but in this case, I'm willing to make an exception. #1: You are a moron. #2: Research is your friend. The Texans have had one home date so far in 2006 (out of 8, or 12.5% of the total home games). In that one game, attendance was 70,180. That's good for #12 in the league. Now, what was attendance last year? An average of 70,299, good for 13th in the league. And what about 2004? 70,649. 2003? 70,468. The inaugural year? 69,915. Okay, let's look at the numbers: 2006: 70,180 (only 1 game so far) 2005: 70,299 2004: 70,649 2003: 70,468 2002: 69,915 If the current average for this year holds up, that would mean that between 2004 and 2006, Texans home attendance will have declined by .66%. In fact, the percentage change between 2005 (pre-Mario and pre-Bush) and 2006 (without All-World Bush and with Sucky Mario) will be a .17% decrease. If you take the current 70,180 average and use the .17% decrease as a baseline, it'll take until 2009 to reach the attendance level of 69,915 the Texans got in 2002. Texans games have been filled OVER the capacity of 69,500 since the birth of the franchise. Drafting Bush would not have changed this fact. You are quibbling over peanuts here. BTW, I'm glad Reggie Bush went to New Orleans. The Saints were second to last in attendance last year, so lord knows, they could use the attendance boost.
How much were the Rockets on national television after Barkley retired and before Yao arrived? Bush would have provided interest in the Texans on a national level. Most of the country just discoved the NFL was in Jacksonville on MNF this week. Welcome to the NFL obscurity corner Texans.
Take a look at the tickets available on ticketmaster.com. Outside of the club level tickets that cost close to $200 and $300 (not realistic for most fans), the only seats available are the back rows of a couple of sections at the very top of the stadium. Most stadiums in the league have a few hundred seats that go down to the wire... that's nothing out of the ordinary. Also, eBay tickets are already sold, so that's irrelevant. Take a look at Vescey's post, and respond to that. Argue the facts, not generalizations.
I wonder if this is going to affect the Dallas market, since they are citing the Cowboys as the reason for the broadcasting drop.
