The LA game wasn't the only time. It was the first time he was asked to leave the court however. The guy was/is great off the bench for the Rockets. The only problem is that he had a hard time learning the plays so the coaches gave up hope and just told him to shoot the jumper or drive to the hoop depending how he was being guarded. Didn't have hope he would pass to the open guy. He has a nickname that stuck and we have talked about it before...
. What!? But the Rockets need to tank? I just don't get some of the guys around here. Please Tell me you guys are not one of the ones that want the Rockets to tank this season. Please tell me your not. Please! BTW, as far as Von Wafer. He is getting a dose of reality. It's a dog eat dog world. I'd take him back, but not at the price he wants. A one year contract to prove he wasn't a one year wonder just looking for a large payday. Prove yourself Von and the money will follow. Who wants to be a Clipper anyways?
yea wafers alright, i was really high on him until he got LOCKED DOWN by the machine during the lakers series If you can't handle the machines pressure then I'm not going to really be missing you to be honest and rather develop budinger/taylor/white, and yes, besides the odd blocked shot he defense was sub par at best. Loved the passion and fire, but definitely not worth overpaying for.
Actually it wasn't just one incident. If you watched all the Rockets game last season, he would sometimes not all the time, **** an attitude, cussing his way to the bench. Even Adelman said after the incident in L.A. he even said it wasn't the first time. This is exactly what he said "We talked about it and this is not a one-time thing," said Adelman. "A couple of things have happened and, you know, it was not the right time. It's all about the team, and that's what Von and I talked about. It's my job to coach the team and it's [his] job to play."
Despite his little rant during the playoffs I want Von back , crap happens... so what and he knows what he did was wrong and I agree that a lot of it was blown out of proportion. This guy was a spark off the bench and did it with great efficiency. While our rookies do look like they have good "potential" they haven't played a single minute of NBA basketball yet and Von has and proved to be a contributor for the team. That and Von still wants to improve his game and wants to be in Houston, if the Rockets don't resign him I think we will lose some of that spark.
I wonder if Morey is waiting to offer him something till another team does so he has a "market value" on him so he knows what would another team offer so he doesn't overpay. I still think Von will end up in Houston, but maybe by him talking to others, Von can see Morey isn't lowballing him, just letting him test the water.
Wafer is still not gone yet? This is the 3rd team, 4th if you include the rox, that have meet him, and none made an official offer?
Every week it's "Von is going here...", "Von is interviewing with...", "Von...", blah blah blah. Hope he comes back, though, and for little money (which will most likely be the case). That is one talented kid.
Thank you Von Wafer for playing with passion and bringing everything you got to each minute of each game that you played in.
Wafer may or may not be fairly portrayed on the internet, but I am pretty sure teams in their league don't rely on Clutchfans to make their decision. They have their own scouts (maybe not the Grizzlies), and their own evaluation system and sources of info. Anyway, good luck to Von,. He should stay away from the Bermuda Triangle of NBA careers, though, and sign with some team other than the Clippers. No good can come out of a contract with that team.
The only good thing about Von Wafer is that he made Luther Head expendable. Backup two guard is the absolute EASIEST position in the NBA to staff. Von will never be a full-time starter, and we just drafted two players with way more upside at his position. Guys like Von Wafer and Luther Head sure make me miss Cuttino Mobley.
I read an article to day talking about the plight of free agents this year. These guys went into free agency expecting GMs to come to their door with offers. Now they are finally facing reality and going to teams with reduced demands in order to get in a good situation. In other words, Wafer and his agent blew it, they should have taken the Rockets offer.
