It means that he is willing to play young players. He may be less willing than some other coaches, but he is willing to play whoever earns playing time.
He's not going to get the kind of long term contract he wants. If he can get a 1 year contract, by all means, opt out. But Bonzi's ~31? He's got one long term deal left in him -- now is not a peak in his value, that's for sure. Taking a 2 mill deal for 1 year and playing well may get him 10 million more a year from now. Or more. Granted, part of it was timing, but there sure were a lot fewer suitors than expected for Bonzi coming off a pretty nice season...would any team give Bonzi a 6-year contract after the escapade he just went through? Agreed. There are few better talents out there than Wells.
We really really need Wells. He is a great player who can shoot jumpers who can drive to the basket post up and rebound. We need player like him commin' of the bench, that's my opinion
agree. if wells actually comes to play then so be it, but im indifferent about him until he shows me more than lazy
From the part of the press conference I heard, Adelman called Wells a "unique talent" that creates match up problems for anyone he is facing. He said the Spurs could do nothing to stop him. I think bringing in that Bonzi is enough to get this team to the second round, adding someone significant at the one is enough to make them a contender. Whatever...
yao playing like he was before the injury would have been enough. The rockets were so freaking close to getting to the second round it wasnt even funny.
Did you see the data from his play THIS year? Are those same GM's lining up to sign JR Rider? I think Bonzi would be smart to stay a year, prove last year was an aberation, otherwise, I am not sure that many teams are going to pay him MLE or mostly MLE money. It didn't happen last year, what makes you think this year will be any different? DD
Can a team that only had 4 players score in a PLAYOFF game really afford to pass on a talent like Bonzi if he's available. or any talent for that matter
No. I think most of them are happy that a coach who couldn't get this team out of the first round in three tries despite having a 2-0 lead twice got shown the door.
reading some of this thread its like i've gone about 9 months back in a time machine. can Bonzi help us we ask Of course he can. JVG wouldnt allow it for whatever reason. There's no question Gawan loves Ricky A. though. Bonzi Wells will be a Rocket, and a productive one at that, this year I hope.
I don't like Bonzi Wells, especially his work ethic. We have had enough of guys like Van Baker. It's tough call, but it seems we don't have many options.
Well, it is really all up to Bonzi, he has a players option on his contract. If he opts out, I would think the Rockets would not have much chance of resigning him.......because they will probably use their MLE elsewhere this off season. And you can't give a player a raise after they basically blew off the franchise all year, granted a lot of that was personality clashes with JVG, but it takes two to tango. DD
With the huge FA class + draft class. I don't think bonzi has much of a chance of getting the money he wants. He is better off just playing for Adelman, and then hoping he can boost his value for next years FA class.
Maybe now, he can finally fulfill his role as a one year rental... who knows? But if anyone can get Bonzi off his ass, it has to be Adelman.
DaDa - Wells is no JR Rider and you know it. He and Rasheed in POR threw basketballs at a teammate working on free throws. He was relatively harmless in MEM and SAC. The man has one bad season in Houston after nearly getting the Kings past the Spurs in the prior playoffs. And we are going to stick him in the junkpile? C'mon...he was coming off a groin injury and wanted to play his way into shape. Dream was not a summer workout fanatic...can you imagine the screams in here if VG wouldn't have let Dream use the season to get into shape. Unless the Rockets take a huge chance and whisper in his ear that (because they'll have Early Bird Rights after 2 years) they'll reward him there isn't any way Wells does not opt out. IIRC, he has until June 30th. Like someone aptly pointed out...the Rockets made history with only 4 players scoring in a playoff game...they can't afford NOT to be conciliatory and foreward thinking. OK..we now return you to your reguarly scheduled program of fat jokes.
