About Chuck... exactly my point... the previous poster claiming Chuck was a vet who played several years in the NBDL was talking out of his ass-- which people often do on these boards. Christ, why don't people stop making up ****?

About Bonzi... Honestly, I see Bonzi

    1. not pick up the option, because he can get more than 2.5 million on 1 year deal in the open market.

    2. try to shop himself to the highest bidder, hoping to get an MLE level deal somewhere.

    3. fail, and end up signing for something like 2 years 6-8 mil to try his luck again.

    4. show up fat again next season and not motivated.

    I don't see Bonzi's career ending well.

28-34 is the physical peak for most players. He's still got some years left in him. Don't be sayin 31 is old.

    Riiiight.

Sorry to break the news to you but guys are typically a shell of themselves by the time they hit 34. That is especially true of guards who don't stay in shape during the course of their career.

You can bet that Bonzi's best days had past him before he even signed with Houston last summer.

Are you serious with that comment? LOL

I can almost guarantee that his agent wrote this, or prepared his speech, since his career is in shambles. I seriously doubt he has any intention to stay in Houston, unless we throw our whole MLE at him ... and he feels he deserves a lot more. The key to this PR is "if the business side of things can be worked out." ... ie he wants MORE money.

This way, he sounds loyal, doesn't sound like a headcase, can sorta blame things not working out on JVG, and maybe someone will make him an offer. Of course, if no one does, he can still come back to Houston, and play for a contract ... which he should have done this year. If there is anyone who CAN get something good out of Bonzi, though, it will be Rick.

Don't anyone get their hopes up ...

it's true for guys who depend on their athleticism or some super talent.

bonzi does not depend on that. he depends on his SIZE/WEIGHT. he was never a good shooter or a slasher, but a bona fide post up player. so that's all good if he gets in shape.

I wouldn't mind seeing Bonzi back with us. It was obvious he was out of shape this past season and there was an issue with JVG. Let's give him a fresh start and he could be a key off the bench for us in the Adelman system. Getting him touches and crashing the boards

he hasn't earned a raise from anybody really. i don't even think him being a perceived malcontent is any kind of an issue. from strictly a basketball standpoint even when he played he was fat and slow. if i was another gm i certainly would not give him more than LLE money, but then again stupid money gets thrown around a lot in the offseason.

he wasted a whole year moping that he didn't get his money, when he could be getting paid this offseason, and possibly even still be a major contributor in the playoffs right now. we could have used a good bonzi.

anyways the most likely scenario is what sherlock posted, but who really knows with this character. honestly i really don't care either way. he got me excited last summer and sucked. i'm not gonna fall into that trap again.

Good point, I feel the same way...wouldn't give Bonzi more than LLE, we got very excited last offseason as the season was about to start when we signed Bonzi and that all went down the drain. He knows he has to prove himself and get in shape

Hmmm, honestly don't know about Bonzi opting out and then resigning with the Rockets. A lot of people are clamouring for the Rockets to spend the MLE on a PG or atheletic PF but the problem is that the market is nearly dried out of those in this offseason. So why not address the need for a punch off the bench: Bonzi? Hey, he'll be better than anybody we can snag in the offseason, and if he does opt out then offer something just under the MLE to him.

So Bonzi wanna stay here. Very good news and I'm glad of that. Bonzi was really that missing link and hopefully Adelman will have a giid relaionships with him and Bonzi stays. It would be really perfect for us. We need this guy

with our inability to make significant upgrades this offseason, i think the bonz staying in town will be crucial. he could have been a major asset in the playoffs. and now with a coach that can figure out how to use him, our team will be that much better.

1st, 2nd, and 3rd year players who logged heavy minutes for JVG:
    Charlie Ward
    Chris Childs
    John Wallace
    Marcus Camby
    Yao Ming
    Keith Bogans
    Luther Head
    Chuck Hayes

Seems like he works fine with young players who are good, maybe his problem is with crappy young players.

You would have to compare the amount of minutes other coaches give to young players to be fair. Just because you named 10 for JVG over the past 8 years doesnt really mean anything. Im not disagreeing. Just pointing it out...

I would take Bonzi back but only at the option price, no raise if he decides to opt out.

At this time I rally don't care, we did not see him play to his full potential, if he chooses the rockets I hope he gives his best !
