they are all beyond horrible It is a sad day when crappt modern episodes of the Simpsons are the best thing FOX has to offer on their animated night I miss King of the Hill sooooo much right now
This show was actually funny. "You are the worst type of autistic" ... **** had me rollin.. sure there weren't MANY laughs.. but the ones that were present were good. The show could pickup. It was wayyyy better than that stupid ass animated show they tried starting last year that was set in a high school. Will Arnett did one of those voices.. now that was ****ing terrible.
american dad is easily the best of the 3 so those dumbasses at fox will probably cancel it. mcfarlane must have some serious blackmail material on rupert murdoch...its the only thing that can explain not only how family guy is still on, but how king of the hill was canceled to make room for the cleveland show.
I did not know that King of the Hill was cancelled for Cleveland show that is a crime against Comedy and Animation! Rocket River
Wrong, it's H. Jon Benjamin from Archer and Home Movies. The guy who plays Stu in The Life and Times of Tim is Nick Kroll, who also plays Ruxin in The League.
I don't think King of the Hill was cancel specifically for the Cleveland show since Fox had been trying to King of the Hill for years, just like they did with Futurama.
I thought it showed potential. I really liked Home movies, and this seems like it could be very similar.
I love Home Movies, but this show seems a lot less retroscripted than HM. Maybe it is just as retroscripted and they're all so professional that I couldn't even tell, but... it seemed to have a more contrived quirkiness than the HM/Dr. Katz type stuff. I'd watch the next episode, probably. What's up with the Cleveland Show, btw? Is it supposed to be funny in that it's not funny at all? Is it one of those reverse things, or what...? I don't even care to give it a chance anymore. If I see it on, the channel is changing.
I haven't seen the show, but I liked the sign in the commercial shown outside the restaurant reading "Free napkins and Ketchup"
If I remember correctly, it was canceled for the Cleveland show, might be the reason why the KOTH series finale premiered in September before the rest of Fox's animated shows began
The thing that pisses me off the most about Seth Macfarlane is that he caught heat for ripping off the Simpsons with Family Guy, then he turned around and ripped himself off. Twice. Family Guy used to be very funny, in the first three seasons. Seven or eight years ago, I got into an argument with a bunch of people on this forum because I said that someday, people would say that Family Guy was funnier than The Simpsons. I was laughed at and my sense of humor was criticized and insulted. "How could anything possibly be funnier than The Simpsons," everyone asked. Flash forward. Dvd sales do for Family Guy what Fox and the ever-changing time slot couldn't, the show is revived, and everyone is on Family Guy's nuts, exactly like I said they would be. The only problem is that it's not funny anymore. I assumed it would be good like the first three seasons, but Seth Macfarlane is a douchebag. He let Hot Topic and the 12 year olds who shop there decide what the funniest parts of the show were (being "random", overly-drawn out, awkward silences, and Stewie), and made those parts the whole show. He dropped everything that made the show good or even approaching original, dumbed it down considerably, and generally did all manner of unseemly things to the pacing and content (all the characters talk like college kids now). And The Simpsons is still funnier. I'm glad I was wrong on that one.
i dont think it was canceled specifically for the cleveland show - they had been almost canceled a couple other times, if i recall. im just baffled as to how seth mcfarlane gets control of fox sunday night line-up. he isnt even funny enough to carry 1 show, let alone 2 and especially let alone 3.
As a die-hard Simpsons fan, I will admit in terms of pure humor, the early seasons of Family Guy were nearly the funniest thing ever. The show never had the structure and plot intricacies of The Simpsons, but what it did have was South Park-crudeness in a more traditional animated "Family sitcom" structure, ala the Simpsons. Taking South Park's crudeness and making it look like The Simpsons, genius Seth, but the characters were amazing, the jokes were firing from both barrels, the parodies of southern life and the shenanigans of Peter Griffin, all made for the gold standard of humor and immense popularity (after initial apathy). How many channels is FG on now? I swear its on at least 10 different cable channels. But in the end The Simpsons had a golden age that arguably lasted 7 solid seasons, and Family Guy has been craptastic for the most part since it came back.
I agree with everything you said. I'm glad you mentioned the structure and plot intricacies of The Simpsons, because that's what makes me love it above any other show. Arrested Development had these things also, and could have made a much larger imprint on our comedy culture if it hadn't been cancelled. I always hoped it would make a Family Guy-like return. Three years, cancellation, dvd sales cause it to grow in popularity, triumphant return! Of course, it might suck like recent Family Guy. I'd take the chance.
Not to worry, folks. Kindly note that Beavis and Butthead will soon return with new episodes, and will save animated comedy for all of eternity.
The tell-tale sign of any animated show taking a nosedive is when the characters become melodramatic mockeries of what they once were in their golden years. It happened with KotH, The Simpsons, Family Guy... the characters end up going through the motions instead of being their charming and humorous selves. Hank Hill becomes incredibly propane-obsessed with zero patience for anything, Homer goes from friendly oaf to a full-blown psychotic with the I.Q. of a dog, Peter goes from obnoxious simpleton to mentally disabled, Stewie goes from super-evil to super gay... the list goes on for each show. KotH became especially difficult for me to watch because the show started out with so much character and innocence. It became so self-aware that it was gag-inducing to watch in its twilight years. Sure, it's the perpetuation of structure and character behavior that keeps a show classic and appealing, but when these styles become so rigid and set in stone that the only direction to go is to over-exaggerate every single character... that's when you know you have to throw in the towel.
Didn't KOTH have an episode that they intended to be the finale, and then they were coaxed to do more episodes? I think the original ending was supposed to be Luanne's wedding, but they got an extension and I guess it got forced out by more Mcfarlane garbage.
