Were any of those players first year rookies last season?

I understand your point, but he was still a rookie last year with a buy out that had to be done. I am sure he will get more when his current contract is up in two years.

I agree 100%, not to mention a better defender and charge taker.

This is EXACTLY what I am talking about and trying to say! :D I mean we still don't really know about the knee either.

If every players contract was re-negotiated everytime someone else got paid something stupid, no teams would be able to control costs or be effective. Scola will get paid accordingly when his contract is up I'm sure.

It was bush league. When asked about Landry, all morey had to say is "we're going to try to give him a fair deal." That would have been it, end of story even if u wanted him to get a scope. Making the comment he made the night before free agency was kinda classless. That's why Baker is trying to play hardball because its personal now. I thought they shouldve signed Turiaf because he can play the 4/5 and let landry walk.

I think the situation with Landry contract has gone real awry. I just hope both side come to agreement soon and everyone will be happy.

Buddy Baker is creating a sideshow. Morey answered a question. I don't think Morey is at any fault here. I think he is a beautiful man and I want to have his babies.

    This is a tough situation...

The thing that keeps spinning in my mind, though, is this: Last year, at least as it appeared to me, in the middle of our big 22-game streak, for the first 2/3 of that streak, we were mostly dominating people. But when Landry got hurt, and we still had a handful more of games we won, it started to be really labored, really hard, and you could tell already that the wheels were starting to come off.

    Right when Landry got hurt.

We were rolling along, rolling over people, right up until the point where Landry got hurt. Even without Yao.

Right up until when Landry got hurt.

Even when he came back, he was nowhere close to what he had been before.

Now he has already come back from one bad knee, to play about 3 really good NBA months for us. So there is no reason to think that he *can't* do it again, and regain that dominating explosiveness and hustle. But the question is, can we in good faith offer the guy a big contract without having a serious look at the knee first?

    I don't think so.

Now sure, a lot of this may be a ploy on the part of Morey to try to lower the price a bit, but if that is *all* it was, then this probably would not have dragged on so long. The knee has to be the real issue, and the fact that his agent has not allowed it, well, that screams out red flags.

But still. We were really clobbering people last year, even without Yao.

Right up until Landry got hurt.

I think he is more important to this team than people realize. I believe Morey knows it too, so the knee has to be a real concern, not just gamesmanship.

Here's hoping they get themselves all on the same page and get this thing taken care of. And if he needs some serious surgery and recovery time, then DO it, get it over with and get him healed. We need him.

guess Carl really does need that dental insurance. I still say he needs a jump shot and i don't mind if we sign him, show him or sit him and then trade him before all star break with Head for a veteran at that position or point guard.

I think the fact that they are negotiating is a good sign. If Landry really gets attractive offers from other teams or even overseas, he would have signed already. There's is nothing to wait here!

Morey said he had some doubts about his knee but his agent said he's fine. Then why don't we arrange a contract which would give him some incentive if he can play over a number of games? Just give him 2.5M per year with bonus of 1-1.5M if he could play over 70 games. I think it's reasonable for both parties.

Good idea. Is there any precedent for this idea? He really could play anywhere from 15 - 75 games for us next year...

The only "red flags" Morey was worried about were offer sheets that he expected to show up by now. There haven't been any. This situation has not "dragged on", conversely this is the way Morey hoped this is the way it would go.

We've made an offer, they've counter-offered and it will get worked out.

People here are gun-shy about criticizing Morey right now, but the truth is before the Artest deal people were pissed off that our offseason was boring us to tears.

Now Morey's looking like a genius. The "injury" was always a red herring.

He will be signed, the guy was a great roleplayer last season. And who wouldn't want him I mean he got his teeth knocked out for us, which I'm sure he wants some revenge on the Jazz. :)

That makes a lot of sense. Though there could be some tension if, for whatever reason, Landry loses his spot in the rotation. That's a lot of money to lose on a coach's decision.

Agreed. Scola's pay is going to be higher than Landry's because Scola is 28 and a highly-experienced European player.

But he's not going to be paid that much because he's not a proven NBA vet yet.

That said, Landry's health is too unsure for us to heap millions on him. This is a second-year guy, not someone who has won the MVP in a bunch of European leagues. Let's not lose perspective on where Landry is in his career. He's special, but don't be too premature. It's been too many times that a spark of talent earns a big contract, and then the spark is gone (see: Knicks). He's very good, very exciting, and I love his style, but we've got to have some restraint. And Morey will.
