Don't be silly. The rockets are only in this situation because they tried to lowball landry last year and ended up only giving him a 1 year deal, when most 2nd round picks get 2 years. Now they're trying to lowball him again.

Telling landry to just take what he was offered without even knowing what he was offered is a joke.

3 years, 7mil That's what Landry, imo is worth...

you know Morey won't overpay either...I swear, why doesn't Landry fire this clown? He must have Landry brainwashed to think he is worth MLE money.

You might be right.I think the latter part is more likely than the former. This is all coming on the heels of the Steve Novak trade which gives me the impression that they might be targeting an alternative to Landry in case they can't get a deal done quickly.
Another explanation might be wanting to get things done with Deke quickly.

Realistic? No. But if we did, hes pretty much an upgrade from Luther Head, who won't disappear in the playoffs and can drive to the basket.

The deal doesn't have to be for a free agent, it could be some other trade. And Landry's deal more than likely won't go over $2.5 for 3 years.

Rumor has it that Pargo is likely to sign with the Spurs soon.

Somebody had to make a first move. They were at a stalemate.

I know we low balled him last season but It was the only way we could make the dollar work all the way around. If he gets 1.7 mill this year he should count his blessings because if we offered him 2 mill for 2 years last year he would be complaining about it. I think he deserves it but he should take the money and I'm sure the Rox will reward him when they can.

oh I don't know, how about check the stats of guys who got MLE with that of Landry's? 8.1 ppg at .616 FG% and 4.9 rpg all in just 16 mins!! for a rookie!!

I personally think Landry's numbers are inflated because of TMac effect, he was forced fed many dunks by TMac's brilliance which he won't get in other teams. Even with that, his numbers are frigging amazing.

Yeah but lots of other guys played with Tmac and were not as productive.

If he should just take whatever we offer, why hire an agent to begin with? The man (Baker) is paid to negotiate and get Landry the most money possible.

People will disagree with me, but what the rox did right before free agency was bush league. They couldve just stepped around the landry issue instead of blatantly trying to lower a guys value. Now all of a sudden without the same test u ask for, u nake a offer. Baker and Landry probably feel betrayed and probably feel the rox are trying to undermine his career. Its kinda personal now. The rox could have made this same offer in the beginning and when he rejects, move forward.

No he wouldn't be complaining this year if he got 2 years last year cause that would have been a standard 2nd round pick contract that most get. Look at monta ellis...he played 3 years at like 700K and then cashed in for 11 mill next season. If landry deserved it, he would have cashed in next summer.

Rockets screwed up plain and simple last year with him. Now they're haggling over what essentially is peanuts when you consider the grand scheme of nba salaries.

If the Spurs can sign him, why is it unrealistic for us? (Just going on what another poster said about the Spurs) Also, I don't consider Head a PG, so Pargo is more than an upgrade from Head to me. The way he played sometimes, some might consider him able to compete with Rafer for starting minutes, but he definitely wouldn't compete with Parker for starter minutes. So if he is really considering moving, unless SA has more money to give him, we sound like a much better opportunity for him. Comments welcomed as always.

While we'll never know how things really went down, when construed this way, we really did screw Landry. But if this is what it took for us to keep him, oh well.
