That he'll shoot 833 3-pointers per day instead of 500? Assuming about 4 months of offseason, 30 days per month.
But that wasn't because he didn't shoot well, that was because he didn't touch the ball much in the last four games. He shot 70% in the few touches he had, so it wasn't like he was blowing a bunch of layups. He only shot the ball 17 times the whole series. Which I would imagine is better than him taking shots away from Yao and Tracy. Also, thanks to the original poster for letting us know what they said on TV! Those of us not in Houston appreciate it.
I like Chuck, but hopefully he dosen't get a deal worth too much because he's limited on what he brings, eventhough he was money around the basket towards the end of year, I don't want another contract like Moochie for an average player.
So are we gonna keep singing people or what? We need to dump some of these players for some draft picks or something.
dude its 500 3pointers per day...for all those alston haters, sure he suks and all, but you gotta respect his work ethic
man for all you guys who are doubting hayes's ability and his desire to improve, you're gonna regret it. I'm sure at the end of the day, we'll see a improved hayes for the 07-08 season and he'll show his worth come playoffs time.
Wasn't it Jon Barry who said on air during the playoffs that Hayes had trouble making baskets even when he was alone in the gym?
When your starting power forward who played 28.5 minutes per game in the playoffs is averaging 2.4 shots per game, it doesn't take a real genious to figure out that your playing 4 on 5 on the offensive side of the ball when he's in the game (maybe 3 on 5 when Rafer is in the game as well). If Chuck Hayes is not chewing up the boards in high volume, he is a liability to have in the game. Though I like what he brings in the hustle and attitude department.
All the doubters win either way -- either they get to say "I told you so" or they are smiling contentedly in their remorse. It's the age-old advantage of the pessimist. I like Hayes but as roster player #11 or #12.
We're signing Chuck for minimal amount, basically paying him for last year. I dont think Chuck will dress this year. However, he will be apart of the 15 man roster. My question though, if he has the contract, what is he waiting for, I dont see anyone else driving up to his front door.
Just because he isn't asked to score, it doesn't make him a liability. Kelvin Cato was an offensive liability. Ryan Bowen was an offensive liability. Chuck knows where to go under the basket, and t-mac finds him. He's gotten good at laying it in the hoop when he's down in there, and every so often he'll show you the little hook, or a spin move (one on elton brand comes to mind). He's not going to be your primary offensive weapon, but he makes the most of his opportunities. With bonzi, mike james, scola and stevie franchise on board, we don't need him to be one. We need him to pick up the scraps and score on opponent double teams (which he does well). Just because you don't have a jumpshot, doesn't make you a liability. ANd just think for a second...when was he ever exploited in a game to the point where you had to just take him out. It really hasn't happened. Add to the fact that now JVG's gone, it's important to keep one of our best man to man defenders on our team. People want a more balanced player. Who gives a ****? He started on a 52 win team, and we need him to help keep some of the defense and defensive intensity the JVG Rockets had.
