We don't need Wafer we're not contending this year so let's give a our Rookies a chance. Taylor can't do much worse than Wafer when he starts chucking up bad shots. Budinger will be Battiers backup @ SF assuming we don't trade batman away.
If he and his agent needs help packing i'd be glad to help. What has this kid proven? Ariza can actually hit an open shot. Let's just focus on bigmen now....
notice all his agent can say is he has passion, he's a total nutcase, i guess their trying to unload all of our mental baggage this summer with the dismissal of von and ron
What part of "THE ROCKETS CANNOT OFFER WAFER MORE THAN THE LEAGUE MINIMUM" do you not understand??? Sorry, don't mean to come down on you, but there've been several posts in this thread and others stating that fact, yet several posters here still don't seem to understand.
Good let him walk. the guy was a bum anyway. A one season wonder and guys automatically think he is the best. NOOOO he can easily be replaced. Now its time for this board to over rate James "the Flight" White.
Von's best bet is resign for the minimum with the rockets and play a full 82 game season. The kid may make more money in 2010. He isn't assured of any playing time with most other teams and its all about fit. He knows that he plays well with Lowry and Landry, he knows the rockets are probably going to be a young running team and he knows that the rockets already know his ability. He's going to get some clock with the rockets. It sucks for the guy, the game 2 incident will probably hurt him a bit in free agency, he can potentially sign with other teams, but he won't be assured of being in anybody's rotation like he would be with the rockets. Assumming he out plays Jermaine Taylor.
yeah that would be an awesome win-win situation for the Rockets and Wafer but his agent said for a minimum contract there would be many other teams going after von and they are the teams that showed more interest and commitment to Von.. so he basically said if Von was to sign an minimum contract he wouldn't go for the Rockets.
I'm not going to sit here and DaDa all over his jockstrap, but he does deserve to come back. The Rockets should re-sign him. Wafer is a guy that has proven he can create his own shot and attack the basket. With more control, who knows how good he could actually be? This would've been a great opportunity this season. We could have seen him start for an extended stretch of games. That being said, I still don't think the Rockets can pay him as much as he wants. I still believe a guy like Jermaine Taylor can do what Wafer does, but the advantage with Wafer is that he's already familiar with our system. It's unfortunate, but that's how things go.
If the guy pouts when he's pulled from a playoff game making the minimum, how will he act if he is given a bigger role, more money, and then gets pulled from a game? Just because he's the only player last year who could create his own shot, that doesn't make him a 'must-have' guy. Truth is, he's a marginal talent who benefitted from the system he was playing in. 5 teams in 4 years tells me that he's not comitted to playing defense.
No, teams cannot sign-and-trade outside free agents. Assuming that Ariza is, in fact, signing for the full MLE, then the ONLY way for the Rockets to re-sign Wafer is to do so for the league minimum.
If he doesn't take the league minimum from the rockets and takes it elsewhere, he runs the risk of getting less playing time with a new coach and a new system. He would be stupid not to resign with the rockets if he can only get the league minimum on the open market. His true value at this point may be the league minimum. Play an 82 game season in the rockets rotation and see what the rockets can do for him in 2010. I really think the guy hurt himself in game 2 of the Lakers series by losing his composure, thats a big no no in the playoffs.
Kind of funny that there has been a big debate the past few months on who we should keep Artest or Wafer and now we may end up with neither.
Sounds like the bridge is burnt between the Rockets and Wafer, which is fine by me. If he came back for the league minimum after feeling the Rockets lowballed him, his attitude could be a problem. He should go elsewhere and start over. I agree with you he really cooked himself in the Lakers series. He didn't play well, Sasha Vujacic got in his head (totally exposing Wafer's lack of handles) and his flareup with Adelman was stupid beyond belief. I don't think Wafer has the brain to handle much success in the NBA.
wow, talk bout some overconfidence in our 2ND ROUND rookies.... it's sad how underappreciated wafer can be sometime, i mean, the dude deserve a bit more than just the league minimum. If i recall, he was pretty much our 6th man and morey really thinks it's no big deal to have a thin bench. this is a step backward, man.
