I am surprised; I thought he would go to the Wizards. If it is true, I am thrilled. He was my first choice even over Brown (I did waffle at bit as the options increased). JVG is a basketball nut! He is very smart, a student of the game. Well then, the Rockets are fertile ground. If there ever was a group of basketball r****ds "they are them!" Please, system, structure, defense, plays, discipline. Oh Please! Professional basketball may return to the city.
Looking forward to it! Hiring JVG has me excited about next season. Looking forward to seeing what he will do with this team. Looking forward to the new coaching staff work with our players in the summer leagues in July and training camp in late September.
The rumor is the Knicks are asking for a 2nd round pick and two exhibition games with us at MSG. www.msnbc.com/news/924022.asp?pne=11947&0ct=-300
I guess JVG made his choice. He turned down a LOT of money from the bullets..er, wizards to come here. Maybe he would rather WIN. What a concept... Welcome to Htown, JVG!
And if that indeed is the compensation I say fine if I am the Rockets. The exhibition games mean nothing and a 2nd round pick is not all that valuable these days, especially for a team as young as this one in which we don't need anymore "youth" via draft picks.
Wow TRUE!!! Never noticed that!!! Maybe this is a supernatural indication that Rockets will win the championships under VG. GOOD!!!
I copied the following post from Yahoo where the VG story is listed (he-he) "The Wiz are infected and there is no cure for what ails them......no coach, no GM, no fans, oh no!"
The Rockets' job is the one he wanted. You can tell from last year's commentator-remarks for Rockets games, which basically screamed, "No, THIS is how the Rockets should play." If nothing else, then he will bring discipline, and a system. Rudy had neither, although I still say, Get well Rudy, we love you. A good day for the Rockets. Before personnel changes, you need a coach.
Good point. With all of the buzz about RT stepping down (or up or sideways..whichever you prefer) and watching the playoffs, I had all but forgotten Van Gundy "coaching" the Rockets on TNT. Something intuitively tells me JVG has already "walked through" being the Rockets coach several times during the past season. I wouldn't know how to place a wager whether he's the best coach for the Rox, but I have little doubt he will be as prepared as anyone.
Maybe in stature only. But he sure knows what he is doing. I am stoked about about JVG bringing basketball back to our arena. Thanks CD for getting the job done!
I am excited about the prospects for next season with JVG at the helm (even though I personally would have chosen Dunleavy). I believe that JVG will bring a work ethic to this team and will light a fire under our guys. At the very least, we will win some games through our defense for a change. I mean, JVG even had Sprewell and Houston playing defense for crying out loud!
Then there are the times when Clutch breaks it first here (Rudy resigns) and Berman takes all the credit for it.
Welcome JVG, We will soon see: 1) How good this team really is 2) If Francis is smart enough to play the point guard 3) How dominating Yao can be 4) What role Mobley should play, if any role at all 5) What players we need to get rid of 6) What players we need to bring in Can't wait for the season to begin.
