man, what's wrong with ricki? other than the lameoid "unbeweavable" joke that the occasional idiot shouts out during the show, overall the show kicks assprin. anyway, YAY for van gundy!!! my only question is... what will we talk about for the remainder of the offseason? hopefully not anymore realgm trade proposals.
I guess it is what it is. I really think natural progression, this team could win close to 50 games, but this will be a very boring team to watch. I hope Van Gundy doesn't have Yao taking the ball out after made baskets either. This made no sense at all.
Report: Van Gundy, Rockets working on contract -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Associated Press HOUSTON -- Jeff Van Gundy has accepted an offer to become the Rockets' next coach, a Houston television station reported Monday. NBA sources told KRIV that Van Gundy called the Rockets on Monday morning and said he will be their next coach pending successful contract negotiations, which are already under way. The Rockets are looking at a four- to five-year contract for Van Gundy, who spent two days in Houston last week, touring team facilities and the city. The deal to hire Van Gundy, the former New York Knicks coach, also will depend on whether the Rockets can agree to give the Knicks some form of compensation for hiring their former coach. Van Gundy is still under contract with New York through July 31. The former Knicks coach also had been considering the head coaching job of the Washington Wizards. here is the article from espn. there is excitement in rocketland again.
Here's the official AP Wire on JVG. What is so great about JVG? I guess the Rudy haters are in dreamland and are coming out of the woodwork. The grasses MUST be greener on the other side right?? Nothing I've heard makes me thing JVG is anything better than an ordinary coach. I would have been in favor of Larry Brown as head coach, a serious track record is there. VG has coached one team - a team that was in the very weak east. This is no measure of skill. Is coaching the Rockets to a record better than 43 wins next year a measure of skill? Not really, their record baring major injuries would likely be better than 43 next year anyway. It seems to be change purely for the sake of change and not for the sake of a promising opportunity.
Actually Van Gundy's playoff teams, especially the conference finals and NBA Finals teams, were running teams. But as the personnel got worse (especially the frontcourt) Van Gundy had to slow the game down to hide the weaknesses of his teams. That won't be a problem with the Rockets. Obviously he'll try to establish Yao in the post, from there he'll probably open the floor Francis and Mobley like he did for Houston and Sprewell in '99 and '00.
Well, at this point a decision needed to be made as we can't change the fact that Rudy will not coach for the Rox and neither will "Carpetbagger" Brown.. Seems a little negative to discount the guy(JVG) without seeing into the future. We as fans should be content that we can look forward to discussing other Rox news and finally getting off this carousel.
remember ya'll its a report, just as the team spokesman said. He's not the coach yet pending if the negotations are sucessful. So before callin van gundy the Rockets head coach, let him sign his contract first. and plus Wiz offer is still on the table unless they withdrew it.
