Same thing ... Vince being from HTown should have no influence on the Texans taking him unless it is a tiebreaker ... There wasn't even close to a tie

The hypocrisy is so thick in this thread, I'm surprised everyone hasn't died of asphyxiation.

Kobe Bryant was passed up by a lot of teams- he was actually traded from Charlotte to the Lakers for Vlade Divac of all people.

Lots of teams passed on Ben Wallace too- he was an undrafted player who found his calling in Detroit.

What I'm saying is teams pass on players all the time... in today's sports there is no "sure thing".

Don't you think the Chargers thought they were getting the "sure thing" with Ryan Leaf- now he's doing squat.

The NFL Draft is a crapshoot- who knows how good Bush, Young, Williams or any other of these prospects will be.

Obviously the Texans felt that this was the best pick for the organization at this time and as a true Texan fan I respect their decision. I won't turn my back on the Texans unlike some of my fellow posters.

NFL teams feel differently. It was reported a week ago that about half of NFL teams had Mario Williams has their #1 overall talent.

it's different when you're a casual fan like me, I usually have preferences on teams, but I'm not like I am with the Rockets. So they would've lost a "potential" fan in me, dunno bout that guy though

I knew we weren't drafting a QB. But.

I'm seriously sick to my stomach. Like really sick.

    Ok, here are my thoughts.

I was fine with either Bush or Young. Both of them are dynamic, talented players with huge upsides AND they bring real marketability to a team with absolutely none at the moment.

Williams may be a great player, but there is more at stake here. Both Bush and Young represented players with real superstar potential - guys who can literally become the face of a franchise that really needs one. Williams, unless he becomes the next Reggie White, won't do that for the Texans.

I think what is more frustrating is that you piss off a LOT of people by essentially writing off VY weeks ago. Then you pass on the guy most people thought would be, while not VY, at least an electrifying player who would mezmorize people and put fans in the seats.

The thing that pisses me off the most is that this is clearly about money. They don't want to pay Reggie Bush a signing bonus of $25 million and Williams is cheaper. They don't want to tie up the cap and they don't feel like a running back is worth it. That's really unfortunate.

They are going to get KILLED by the media and fans are not only going to bail on them, they are likely going to boo this kid, who won't deserve it.

    Wow...just wow.

I feel bad for Mario. The guy will be booed, and he'll have to be the second coming of Reggie White to in over fans.

Actually, I heard tonight on the radio that out of the top 30 teams in the draft, only 6 had Williams higher than Bush on their boards and, in a poll taken, only two thought they would be willing to take Williams over Bush if they were both on the board. I guess one was Houston.

How is this being a hypocrit? People wanted Vince because he was from Texas/Houston which is a stupid argument. For those that actually think Vince is the best player then it is just a simple disagreement and I can respect that. If the Texans took Vince because they thought he was the best player, then I would just say that I disagree about who the best player is.

The problem I have with this is that it is obvious they took Mario because he was easier to sign than Reggie and that is a pathetic reason to take someone at #1 overall when you don't have him at the top of your list.

That said anyone who doesn't want to be a fan because they didn't draft Vince or Reggie can leave and I hope they don't come back.

The Saints will have to trade him... they just threw a bunch of money at Deuce, and they know they can get more value for Bush as a trade commodity than he will give to the team.

In the end, they wanted Williams... but will have to rebuild with more picks instead of a DE.

Wow, i just want to cry really. The whole country laughs at us during the season because we are the worst team in the league, but they are laughing at us at the draft because now we are the dumbest team in the league too.

I wish we could have the Titans come back and become the Oilers again, this team in 4 years already makes me sick. Of course if we win a superbowl we all put our foots in our mouths but this is not the way to have fans embrace the team again after a 2-14 year, it just makes it even worse. All the moves they have done this offseason just went down the drain with this idiotic move.
