You forgot to add Carr's sack totals.

Bush is no offensive lineman, but at least he would have helped prevent defenses from tee-ing off on Carr all day long.

Ironically, if Bush was not the pick, the guy the Texans SHOULD have decided on was Ferguson. More than defensive help, this team's NUMBER ONE NEED, far ahead of defense, is Offensive Line improvement.

I am sure David Carr is just thrilled with this decision. Well, at least he gets his 8 mil.

Well, they got the best player in the draft at the most important position on defense. I guess I can't be TOO concerned.

I remember way back, like the day after the Rose Bowl, on sports talk they were saying that the Texans would come out with at LEAST Young or Bush, and if not, somebody better be trading a bunch of picks for that pick.

Now none of that has happened. It is weird that no other teams ever seemed that interested in trading for the first pick, but now that Reggie will fall to 2, all of a sudden people want to trade for the second pick.

If NO trades out of the second pick and still gets one of the top 7 and some extra picks, it will make Houston look r****ded.

As a D'Brick fan, I completely agree. However, I'd reserve judgment until after the draft. It's possible that the Texans could trade back into the first round to address OL. I doubt Winston Justice falls, but you never know.

    Pessimist much?

Actually, if you look at it on the whole, our offense is set to be above average, and actually may turn out quite good this year. Not only did we get Eric Moulds, Putzier and Flanagan, but they have a brand new system that has put up point after point after point in Denver. The system alone will improve our O-line, let alone Flanagan and the draft. Really, if you look at it, all we need is another good lineman or two, and we're pretty set at every position on the offense.

The defense, on the other hand, still remains a crap shoot. Maybe they can mould Babin into some sort of linebacker or something. Peek should be, and I think will excell at linebacker. Then, there's Johnson and Robaire Smith on the d-line, which isn't horrible. We have good ends with Mario, Weaver/Babin. The secondary is a crapshoot and needs an overhaul with this draft.

Overall, whether it seems like it or not, this team is quietly coming together. With the right draft picks, and a "diamond in the rough" or two, we could be very competitive, despite the fact that we didn't take everybody's love child.

Afterall, now we won't have to deal with the griping about Bush and Davis splitting time. And it's pretty certain that Domanick will at least hover around 1,000 yards year in, year out, as long as he's healthy.

Not only that, but now it looks like Cutler, as well as Leinart or Young will take a bit of a fall....

if the Texans wanted a great DE, why didnt they trade for John Abraham? He's proven and he wasnt asking for $26 mil bonus. Plus the pick the Jets got for him was like only 5 or 6 picks higher than the Texans 2nd rounder.

I like to think of myself as an optimist, so here's my take: With Casserly soon to be gone, at least we won't screw up when we have the #1 overall pick again next year.

Casserly did what 3,536 posts could not

    ...

he united the VY and RB camps.

Honestly, how classic is that thread going to look in a few years?

Then the Saints have their future QB, Leinart. They're in a win-win situation.
Do the Titans take Bush, even though they have Chris Brown, or do they take Vince? If they take Vince, which I'd like to see, then Reggie falls in the Jets' lap.

I don't get how anybody could feel this was the right move. I mean, if Williams had played well all season long, I could see it, but to think this guy is going to improve our defense when he seems to disappear for games at a time, I just don't get it. I know he's a freak, physically speaking, but what good is it to have such tools if you don't have the desire to use them every game?

i can't imagine the titans don't take a QB. if the saints can't trade bush for enough value to make it worth their while....then i think bush falls to #4.

    CHEW ON THIS...

Chris Mortensen just said on ESPN that a few weeks ago, as many as 6 teams had Mario Williams rated higher then Bush on there boards.

He believes it was a football decision. It was a difficult choice, do you choose the next Bruce Smith,

I admittedly didn't follow the Texans much last year, but I hope to change that this year. So... mrpaige : how much of their defensive suckitude was caused by the fact the offense sucked and couldn't stay on the field? Just curious...
