I'd rather have Mario than Reggie.

This is a PR nightmare for the Texans, though. With fans arguing Vince or Reggie, they managed to not just piss off 50% of the fans but rather pretty much 100% of them. I could've dealt with Reggie but I've always said I don't think he'll be a great NFL back. I'm not entirely sold on Mario, either, which is why I wanted to trade the pick. Apparently nobody wanted either of these guys that bad.

    On a completely different note:

I had this weird premonition the other day that David Carr is going to pull a Culpepper this year leaving us with Ragone at the helm. That would be the proper punctuation to this whole "we're set at QB argument."

However, Mario is the guy and now it's time to hope he's the second coming of Reggie White.

Isn't that why we drafted Travis Johnson last year?

Anybody know how he fits into this, and whether or not he can be the key that helps Williams go off on the O-lines?

Do the Houston fans REALLY want to be watching the Baltimore Ravens version of 'championship' football?

    All defense, no offense?

Step right up, folks, bring your ATM cards, and come on out to the stadium! THAT'S ENTERTAINMENT!! WATCH! ..as David Carr dumps off another 4 yard pass to Dominic Davis! WATCH! .. as Andre catches 3 passes per game, for a 9 yard average! WATCH! ..as Moulds mouths into the camera in the 3rd game of the season: 'WTF did I come HERE for??' WATCH! .. as #1 Draft Pick Mario Williams gets a sack every other game! WATCH! .. as David Carr breaks his single-season 'getting sacked' record! WATCH! ..as the Texans have the #1 pick in the NFL Draft for the 3rd time in 6 years!

Remember, a lot of people were picking this team as a playoff team LAST year. The offense will be changed almost not at all from the pathetic joke it was. Who will actually want to watch that again?

Let's try a different game. Predict this season's W/L record, now that we know there will be no Bush, and no Young.

This team will be lucky to have 3 wins this season.

    Bah.

    :(

Once again... you're not going to have trouble selling "chapionship" football, no matter what kind of brand they're playing.

I'm sure you're a big fan of the Indianpolis Colts... and not the New England Patriots or Ravens.

Winning (no matter how) = fans...

    Well, heres one good thing

I dont believe he's one of these "work-out wonders"

His 4.7 time was a bit slower then expected. He looks faster then that on the field.

See that is what i am wondering about, if you ask me Travis Johnson is yet to be proven, this could give him the help he needs, a tandem like the two of them could be(on paper) is nice, but it has to happen in reality

If you are right, we will be staring Adrian Petersen right in the face. All you BYOF need to get over it already.

Isn't that what you were hollering at us that wanted to get VY a few days ago?

Yea, exactly... the poster was expressing how for Williams to be dominant, he'll need help on that line, and hopefully Travis will provide that in the middle, and be able to stuff the run.

Also, if KUBIAK is the one making this decision (our venerable offensive genius), and he didn't want the supposed "greatest offensive prospect ever"... we really need to either re-think Bush's true impact, or re-think whether or not you're going to enjoy Kubiak's new offensive philosophy (where apparently, you don't need superstar RB's).

Last I checked, Dom Capers and his hapless staff of cronies were all FIRED.

I dont believe we will see that under the Gary Kubiak regime.

I hope not, personally i hate the combine, i think over the years it has had more and more influence on draft choices, as we have seen more and more busts through the years at high picks, interesting correlation.

Alright, nostradamus... who's going to win it all next year in the NFL? I guarantee you weren't going to pick the Steelers last year.

Clinton Portis was a steal, a diamond in the rough if you will

Obviously, I was shocked at first.

Then, I thought about it, and with Mario Williams we are a step closer to the Super Bowl IMO than we are with Bush. There are not many things consistent in the NFL, but one thing that is is that you have to have a strong defense to win championships. That was a great stat pointed out by Jeff earlier about how the recent champions have all had pretty average running games and strong defenses. A good offensive line and passing game will turn DD into a pro-bowler anyway.

For those of you blaming it all on Casserly: Shutup. There is not a GM in the league that would take a guy #1 that the head coach did not agree on.

I'm sure trading down was also an option, but from everything I've seen the Saints had locked in on Mario. They're not going to trade up one pick to take Bush when they want Mario.

In the end Bush and maybe Young might be bigger stars, and would sell more tickets, but I honestly think we're closer to being a contender with Williams. What sucks is we're going to hear people b**** about it until we are a contender. The reason I didn't want Vince was because he just didn't fit...starting over at QB would essentially be starting over for the franchise. Getting Bush wouldn't have been starting over, but it wouldn't be moving forward either. We still would've had a ton of pieces to fill. Mario has the talent to be a #1 pick despite what some of you think, and he fills a void (spare me the Peek and Babin argument).

This pick is better for the franchise in the longrun. I didn't even see it before because I think we all had Bush or Vince colored glasses on because they stand out. Mario is definitely an impact player and will make the defense a lot better. I'm very happy with the choice after really thinking about it.

Bottom line though is winning makes everything better, and this pick will help us win sooner than Bush will.

Oh, and I wouldn't be surprised if we were trading up for that 26th pick to grab a HB (Moroney hopefully, I don't care for Lendale). I remember reading somewhere on this board that CC had said we would take a HB in one of the first 2 rounds.

    EDIT:

One more thing I wanted to add. Very rarely do offensive superstars' teams win it all in the NFL...especially at HB. Peyton Manning is probably the biggest star right now, and look what they've done. The Steelers had a great group of guys but not really anyone that is on top of the league. The Pats...Brady is a great team QB but he's not quite that superstar prototype. Marshall Faulk is the only guy in recent history to really win as a superstar HB. Just like it was said earlier in this thread...then you go to Emmitt, but those Cowboys teams were pretty stacked everywhere (including O-line).
