i'm not a HUGE NFL fan, but i do follow pretty close. there can't be any way that a guy 6'6 and nearly 300 pounds is UNDERSIZED at Defensive End....no way. i'm not buying that from any "expert". that is one HUGE human being and anything short of nose tackle, that man is NOt undersized.

    Amazing.

There is no real rationalization for this. None that is acceptable enough, anyway.

    I can't help but laugh.

Ah well, hopefully they'll still be good anyway...

I wanted VY, but since thats not going to happen at least i get to keep my Domanick Davis Jersey. I hope Mario turns out to be a good pick, i like the texans and all but they are a distant third for my favorite sports teams. Ive really tried to like them the way i liked the Oilers, but i just havent been able to get behind them the way i could the house of pain oilers. At least the oilers were competitve and floyd reese was a good gm. Helll even the name made sense for our city. I will reserve judgment for a couple of years.

Very true and i am speaking with complete, emotional frustration right now, i know nothing i am saying makes any sense, i am not suggesting turning out backs on the organization, i am mearly suggesting that the organization does not have as much respect for its fan base as i think they should

6'6-6'7 - 290 is undersized for a pass rushing DE?

And, you say the safe, sure pick is staring us in the face, but (like I said) everyone questioned his ability to play every down, be a guy who can run between the tackles, be a guy who could really do anything with the faster NFL defenses, questioned his size, etc, etc. Every one said we shouldn't use the the #1 a RB, let alone one who can't carry it 25+ times a game. I was siding more on the side of drafting Bush, but this is a great pick.

I will be a real fan.....Im goin dowin with this ship, if so be it.

I really wanted Reggie Bush, even ahead of Vince Young.

But If the Texans believe Mario is the answer....Im all for it.

    And think about it.....seriously

If Mario ends up being as good as advertised...or even half as good, with Dunta lurkin in the backfield, this defense could become "lights out" for years to come. And I have full confidence in what Gary Kubiak could do for this offense... without Reggie Bush's help for that matter.

If this pans out, the Texans will be solid on BOTH sides of the ball. Id rather have that then the heartbreak Colts fans have had to endure with there "explosive offense" and no Lombardi trophies to show for it.

I am being spoiled about it i know : ) I mean he is a freak of human physical capabilities, but going up against 300- 340 lbs line man, who most likely will be double teaming him a lot of the time.....

On channel 13, they had a little snippet of Bob Slovak asking Reggie Bush is he was surprised.

    HE LOOKED PISSED.

    Question:

Let's assume for a minute, all things being equal..and hell, I'll even throw Vince Young into this...if Bush, Williams and Young all work out.

If all three reach the 'potential' that's been tossed around all year.

    Who do you pick first?

    Dwight Freeney - 6'1 • 268
    Willie McGinest - 6'5 • 270
    Michael Strahan - 6'5 • 275

Mario Williams is bigger than all three and is almost as fast and quick as Freeney.

You don't take a DE with the #1 overall pick, not even in a weak draft, but especially in a strong draft like this....this is a poor choice

but one thing that he and guys like peppers have is just pure athleticism that no matter how big the other guy is, you can't block it. it looks like williams has great quickness and strength and if 290 is his ideal playing weight for being explosive, he needs to stay there. yes, it would be idea to have a guy 6'8, 330 and run a 4.6 40 at DE but that just doesn't happen. but physically, williams is pretty damn close.

Opinions are like a-holes, and I realize that the opinions of the masses are not always right, but I really think this draft had two obvious superstars in Reggie Bush and Vince Young and to have the #1 pick and come away with neither and not even a package of picks is unexplainable. What's strange is I even agree with the cliche that defense wins championships, especially in this day and age and I still can't fathom passing up Bush and Young players which I would wager will both leave a lasting impression on the NFL. I guess after three hours of pondering this move by the Texans, for me its like this:

Mario Williams could end up being the next Reggie White, or even Lawrence Taylor, and I'm still not sure that warrants passing up the two afore-mentioned talents. And the black mark on the franchise from its fans.....I mean every time Young and Bush score a TD, make a highlight reel play, the fans are going to react and the franchise will feel the heat. How about this nightmare scenario: Young gets drafted by Tennessee and twice a year we are treated to highlights of Mario Williams being juked out of his shoes. Print the posters now. I mean I feel sorry for the guy, large contract aside. I mean he could pile up 15 sacks a season and I still don't think he will be accepted by the fans unless, by some twist of fate, both Young and Bush end up being busts.

I do not usually look to Michael Irvin for quotes, but of all the reactions I've heard so far tonight, his seems to most closely mirror my feelings: "The Texans just passed up on Michael Jordan for Mario Williams."-- Michael Irvin

I saw that and thought the same thing and then Bob or the other guy said Reggie was putting on a good face. I saw it at the last second, were they just being funny?
