Texans | M. Williams could force some defensive switches
    Fri, 28 Apr 2006 20:04:59 -0700

John McClain, of the Houston Chronicle, reports North Carolina State DL Mario Williams, expected to be taken No. 1 overall by the Houston Texans, could force the team to make changes against both the pass and the run. In running situations, Williams will likely play right defensive end while DL Anthony Weaver will play left defensive end and LB Antwan Peek will move to outside linebacker. In passing situations, Weaver will move inside while Williams plays left defensive end and Peek will move down to right defensive end.

i understand texans' fans frustrations but do you really want to be known as the city who let not ONE but TWO NFL franchises walk out of town???.....

i don't blame the city of houston at all for turning their backs on bud adams, but you can't do that again....you just can't. it would look awful on the city and its fans. sometimes you just have to sit back and let the dumbasses running the team, run the team.

i hate jerry jones, but i'm still a dallas fan. i thought i would walk away after the TO signing, but surprisingly i'm not turning my back on the cowboys. i don't know why because i depise TO as much, if not more, than any man on the face of the planet. but regardless of the crappy decisions i think he makes, i still support my team because they are my team.

houston texan fans, as much as you HATE this decision (and you have every right to) you can't turn your back on a franchise that is still so young. you CAN NOT boycott the texans and have them move somewhere else. do have any idea how bad that would look for not only the texans fans but houston in general????

C'mon now. Stop watching BSPN and lay off the kool-aid. The average salary for all RBs last year was $1,583,375 (with a median of $565,000). The average salary for DEs last year was $1,615,340 (with a median of $680,860). Truly dominant DEs are harder to find. The end.

Now we have to watch Vince AND Reggie tear it up in other uniforms.

    This sucks.

There ya go! We should make Texas, A&M and LSU our minor league system. As long as we keep drafting players from those programs, or a hometwon prospect, fan support and ticket sales will be off the charts!!! Oh, well I guess we can live with never sniffing the playoffs, but HELL at least our hearts will all be in it.

Face it, if they are a playoff team next season, you and and everyone else will be a HUGE Texan (and Mario Williams) fan.

I'm one of those people that is really shocked.

That being said I'm not going to stop watching the Texans, I just don't work that way, they're my team and I'll root for them no matter what. But I thought the prevailing thought was that Bush was a dynamic player that could cause mismatches all over the field and would give the Texans a "face" for the franchise. Adding Putzier and Moulds is going to help but both are short-term measures for helping and anemic offense.

No matter whats said, I think it came down to money, you pay more for a DE than a RB, but I think it was cost-effectiveness. Williams will be paid X amount and will affect 60-70 plays a game whereas Bush will touch the ball 15-22 times a game in carries and receptions and get paid X amount.

I wasn't completely sold on Reggie Bush, but I'm less sold on Mario Williams. Over the college football season I watched a handful of NC State games and Williams did great against WF and Duke, but disappeared against Clemson and Maryland.

That being said I'll get used to it, just need to prepare myself for the thrashing that the Texans will receive from everyone tomorrow.

C'mon Shady...That's a little dramatic don't you think? Jesus...you'd think the Texans just signed Chris Berman or something. It's done.

If, as reported, five teams are trying to trade up to #2 then why couldn't Chuckie Casserole have made a similar deal???

Funny how most have bashed the potential Bush pick saying he is not an every-down player and we have other much bigger needs.

We are going to draft a guy who is going to be a 60-play a game guy who fills a huge need in a playmaker on defense, and guess what? Every one is bashing it. LOL!!!

Please excuse me somewhat i am so unbelievably P.O'ed right now, i apologize a lot of things i have said have been out of pure emotional frustration, but i am irate at the Texans front office, we all know that casserlly more than likely wont be with our organization after this draft is over, and as a fan i feel totally unapriciated( i dont care if i cant spell)

We dont know that he will be a playmaker, 6' 6" at 290 is undersized and he has admited it, we will see if he puts on the 20 -25 pounds like he said, but his work eithic has already been in question, and why would you take a risk, when the safe, sure pick is staring you in the face

exactly....that's why i'm not buying that "no one made us an offer" bit. that's bullsh!t. five teams are looking now but not before? not buying it. i'm sure a team like oakland and the jets were interested and would make offers.

again, i'm fine with the decision that the texans wanted mario. but you easily could have had him at #4 or possibly #7 as well, and if not there are still other really good players to take. if you are not sold on bush, then TRADE the pick. get value for the pick and work on adding more pieces to a very incomplete puzzle. you are 2-14 for a reason.

Totally understandable if Reggie was your guy....I was pretty stoked about them drafting Bush as well. However, after stepping back from the situation, having some sex and eating a Zebra Cake I realized that we just might've drafted a pretty special player.

Dont forget that with Bush you give the Texans national exposure. A superstar face to go with the franchise and the city. Not only would the Texans have had broad national appeal, it would have been a PR dream. That being said I am with you, I am a Houston homer and love my Astros, Rockets, and Texans no matter what. I am pissed off right now, but that doesnt mean I wont be watching with my gear on.

I'm quite sure if the press wanted to they could find a way to question the work ethic of everyone of those guys that are about to be drafted.

I also highly doubt that all this was in Casserly's hands. I would think that Kubiak knows a little something about building a strong franchise.
