everything i heard pointed to moving Babin and Peek back to their "natural" end positions since we were shifting out of the 3-4. Am I wrong?

I think Mario brings more value to this team on the field than Bush does.

The offense can improve pretty drastically with good coaching.

The defense doesn't have any playmakers on the team outside of Dunta and has no chance in hell of improving until they can get pressure on the qb.

Mario is the best DE prospect since Peppers, and maybe even better than him, as far as measurables go. Lineman generally last longer in the league than rbs, and at a much higher level.

I think going for Mario is the right move, but I didn't think there was any chance in hell that the Texans would have the guts to actually do it. Color me surprised.

Mario = chance for more W's, but I can understand why fans would be upset at not getting to see Bush our VY on the highlights for their team. It isn't the sexy pick, but whatever.

    It is official

Wow, this guy was NOTHING in college....this is comical....

HOUSTON -- The Houston Texans have signed North Carolina State defensive end Mario Williams to a six-year, $54 million deal, making him the No. 1 pick in the NFL draft Saturday.

Of the $54 million, Williams is guaranteed $26.5 million.

Texans general manager Charley Casserly had cautioned earlier in the week that anyone concluding the team had decided on Southern California tailback and Heisman Trophy winner Reggie Bush and was only using Williams as leverage was mistaken.

The choice of Williams by the Texans could dramatically alter the landscape of the early segment of the first round. The New Orleans Saints, with the second choice, have indicated they would snap up Bush if he fell to their slot. But the Saints had hinted, in general, that they might entertain trade offers for their pick.

imo, I don't think either of those guys are going to be good DEs. Maybe servicable depth, but nothing more.

Wow! Merrill Hodge is the biggest hater in the history of haters, he would run away the haters ball on Chappelle show, did anyone see his blasting of both Matt Lienart and Vince Young? He basically says Vince Young will be a bust because he's dumb and he doesn't have a strong arm, and that Matt Leinart will be an average QB because he's not that smart and has a weak arm.

I wouldn't sweat it guys ... this reminds me of when the Rockets took Jay Williams over Yao Ming. It all pays off in the end.

OK now that I have had a little time to think about it, I've calmed a little bit. I'm still not giving Kubiak (this is obviously his choice) a pass, but I am going to take a more reserved wait and see attitude. I've been looking for an article I read earlier today trying to find some stats on Williams. I can't for the life of me remember where I saw it, but in searching I ran across a couple of other articles about him. Both articles talk about the importance of a good pass rusher for Super Bowl teams. Look at the last few winners and you'll see that none of them have a real super stud at RB. The last great RB to play for a SB winner was probably Faulk and they were 1 yard away from losing and maybe Jamal Lewis but he was fairly unheralded at the time. Before that you have to go back to '96 and Emmitt Smith. Heck, even most of the SB losers (with Seattle the exception) lack an elite RB. Most SB teams have above avg. to good backs , and I think that a lot of people will agree that DD can fit that category.

Switch gears for a minute and consider this. Most of the SB teams had an elite defensive lineman or linebacker. Pittsburgh, Tampa, Baltimore, Philadelphia with Kearse, Green Bay with Reggie, all these teams have good defenses. Maybe the Texans are on to something. Like I said before I'm not giving them a pass, especially if Williams is terrible. But I'm certainly not going to crucify them until I see what he does. I think we'll all be happy if pans out like a Peppers or Kearse.

    Sorry, just saw that.....

It is a wow....I mean wow...this guy was DECENT at NC State, but not dominant.

All I heard from scouts was that if they weren't told to watch him they would not have noticed he was on the field.

Also, I heard his motor is not on all the time.

I think VY would have been the best pick but Bush was a good 2nd choice.....this just reeks of stupidity, UNLESS there is a trade in place that we don't know about.

yup, the saints were probably going to take him even though they already have 2 really good DE's. That shows me how highly regarded he is as a prospect when the Saints have way more glaring needs than DE.

Ha! That's DD being deliberately obtuse in order to rub it in to some of the obnoxious Bush Only Fans around here. :D

    That's my guess anyways... ;)

The bright spot in that is maybe they're copying JJ's Cowboys, when he rotated 7 or 8 D-linemen throughout the game, so they were never worn down by the O-lines when the 4th qtr came along.

Charlie Pallilo speculated that Team Bush went into this asking for more then he was worth because he didn't want to play for the Texans. He would only play for the Texans if they overpaid him. Bush really wants to go to New York or San Francisco.

If this is true, why didn't they at least trade down.
