yes...I'm pretty sure he is sure...hmm...

check the facts before you start telling others whats right and whats not

the strawberry trade was a great trade...we actually wanted and targetted strawberry...didnt you know we have a problem at PG...we wanted the player...not the money...I thought that was pretty obvious...

remember its pretty obvious as well that Strawberry will make the team and Harris won't...

I'm pretty sure about that. The purpose of the Singletary-Strawberry trade was to trade a guy (Singletary) that the Rockets would have otherwise cut this week to avoid paying any guaranteed portion of his salary in exchange for a guy (Strawberry) who can come to training camp and play in the preseason without any guaranteed salary counting against the cap or the luxury tax. Plus, Strawberry offers an element (tall defensive combo guard) that the Rockets didn't have before.

I don't think Weiss, who is in his 30s by now, has any chance of playing in the NBA and I think Morey knows that.

I am thinking the real motivation was to do Donnie Walsh a favor by giving him a player who is inconsequential to the Rockets but appeals to the Knicks. I think this move gives Morey a tiny bit of brownie points with Walsh and make future deals a bit easier.

Suppose Yao were to go down this year, then we could sign this guy to a contract? What does having his rights mean exactly?

Nice move by morey. i expect strawberry to be gone to. with both the trades and the impending cutting of DJ, our roster is pretty much set if the trio of deke , landry and dorsey Re-Sign.by cutting strawbarry's non-guranteed contract and letting weis go, we can throw some money over landry's and dekes way. i also think head's expiering and memphis nd pick could net us a mid or late st round pick. send head and memphis nd to philly fot there st. there dying for an outside shooter.

    McGrady
    Yao
    Artest
    Scola
    Battier
    Alston
    Barry
    Francis
    Hayes
    Landry: hopefully
    deke :likewise
    Dorsey :read above
    Harris
    Brooks
    Head

That pretty much is the roster set going to training cam and is the maximum
    fifteen players allowed.

So basically, we managed to pass off the 2 box scraps that came along with Artest, preventing any unnecessary lost of money?

Morey is on fire. Maybe, just maybe, he has another big deal in mind, or he could just be saving Les some money and giving us more space for landry and deke.

Morey has said that Strawberry has a chance to stick. He gives us something we really don't have and need, a big guard who is athletic. We needed that many times last year, especially on the defensive end. It appears to me that Morey is not making small moves.

    Any thoughts?

He's being polite. he's not gonna say were gonna cut him. they'll use him as a spare body in the training camp to makeup the numbers. once thats done, byby. or he'll have to train the house down at training camp to be retained.

Morey could have waived both of them and got nothing. Maybe we can do another trade, where we trade Weis(Spanoulis) for a talented player(Scola or unsigned draft pick) in the future and take back some salary(Jackie Butler).

Now we have another minor trading piece that will work great for teams that don't need a Kwame or Artest deal, but only a Spanoulis/Butler size deal.

While I agree with you for the most part, Morey could have either cut Ewing altogether or traded him to the Knicks for NOTHING (using the Minimum Player Salary Exception). Why take back the draft rights to Frederic Weis when he could have taken back absolutely nothing. Sounds to me like Morey would rather have an asset worth almost nothing than nothing altogether.

I personally don't feel Morey is done making small moves.

Strawberry led the summer league last year in assists, when his confidence was high, because the Suns were wanting to make him a backup point.

This year he had more turnovers than assists, but knew he was not in the Suns plans, thus his confidence was low.

He is a definite defensive specialist, with weaker offensive skills. He is a tweener, so if is could learn to handle the ball better and have his confidence boosted he may be very useful for our club.

He will not need to be much of a scorer, with all of our weapons now. If he can pass, being 6'5", seeing the floor better, he will have many possiblities for assists here. He would only be a back up, but could be really a help in certain matchups.

Not to be forgotten, he have several players now who can handle the ball, not needing him to handle the ball all the time. If he can slash, he would fit a defininte role.

His defense is really needed and with our present roster, we would be one of the best defensive teams when he is in @ the point.

    Any thoughts?

Maybe Morey took back Weis to make it seem less like a favor and more like a legitimate trade. Though Weis at this point is basically the same as nothing.

We would be one of the best defensive teams if Strawberry never plays a game for us.

I didn't follow his career much, but nothing in his stats make me think he is anywehre close to an NBA player.

In fact, if the Rockets want a big man at any time, there are at least 5-6 guys available who can be signed to a min contract better than Weis.

    His rights are irrelevant.

Normally I'd agree with you, but Morey has shown himself to be pretty clever at this sort of thing. I woud not be suprised at all if he made them 'relevant' somehow.

From what I have seen, Morey has proven to be very shrewd. Whatever his motives for any trades, I have been waiting to see why he makes them. He is earning my respect and trust. I have liked what he has done so far.

I am waiting to see how things work out with each trade and what is up his sleeve next.
