Great signing. I love this signing.

But, this is still one of our desperate attempts to make up for the Rudy Gay mistake..

I mean to the people who said Rudy Gay wouldn't develop in the Rockets---so Von Wafer can and Rudy Gay cannot???!!!

Can we please let the Rudy Gay thing go. Rudy Gay could just as easily been another Eddie Griffin or Stromile Swift. If we win a championship in the next few seasons I garuntee Battier will have many big 3's/defensive plays/assists to contribute. Meanwhile, we are building a team that should be a contender every year.

That's a lot more than Rudy is having in Memphis, by the time Memphis is contending Rudy will probably be leaving for free agency. I am so burned out on the second guessers and pessimists.

Let's look forward Rocket fans...the future is bright.

Right now he's tentative and mentally aloof. Defensive is about confidence and anticipation which will come with time... or he won't be in the league. I wouldn't call Gerald Wallace or Trevor Ariza great man-to-man defenders, but they use their length and athleticism to cause a lot of havoc on the floor. That can really be useful when you have grind it out playoff basketball, as well as playing the passing lanes which makes opponents hesitate or think twice before they make their next pass. I'm not saying he's a good defender or close to it yet, but he has the tools and is young for his age.

We got hayes so let's just foget about bowen. They both play w/ a lot of energy but hayes is stronger and more reliable on the defensive event.

Unlike JVG, adelman develops young talents. Go and look at the blazers with kersey, robinson, porter, and even a young clyde. Look at sacramento with peja, hedo and he probably wishes he wouldve played wallace more. Its always good to have young athletic swing players. The wing players are probably the most athletic players in the league. Having white develop, along with wafer is good. Getting rid of battier this offseason should be a priority.

You can't be sure that he isn't going to come back close to the old tmac. Maybe it isn't likely, but you can't rule it out completely. You also can't say with certainty that his rehab will take over a year. It could very well take 8-10 months and he'd need maybe 1-2 months to get back in basketball form, which puts his return at the all star break. Even if he's not back to being Tmac, he's going to get a significant amount of minutes. They're not going to sit him down so fans can give the team hell and for the team to lose potential revenue. Even if it's just 25 mins a game, that's 25 mins less available for Wafer.

Les has been the biggest supporter of Tmac, he's not going to turn his back on him like that. As much as Les likes winning, he likes big names. He'll definitely try his best to get tmac integrated into this new style.

Wafer is going to look at the worst case scenario for him here, and that's White showing he has game, Shane getting his game back, Ron resigning, and Tmac coming back to play at least 25 mins a game around mid-season. That could really turn him into just a spark off the bench, that comes in for 15 mins and shoots 10 shots. He's not going to want that. I think his stock is high right now and he's going to get more $ elsewhere, along with more PT. Playoff appearances aren't gonna pay his bills. (he'll be a millionaire of course, but you know what i mean).

So rox got another scorer. Unless the reports of him being a very good defender came true, and he manage to take over battier spot. Then that will be a good sign by morey.

If it meant its an insurance that wafer/ron might be going, then splash.......

I cant see playing time for him. And he is already 26-27. So we should be looking at the final product other than a new move here and there.

So I guess you think Phil Jackson is a bad coach because he didn't develop Von Wafer when he was on the Lakers. Let the JVG thing go. JVG has his way of coaching and RiA has his way of coaching. Two different guys with two different systems.

Wafer is ahead of Barry now yes but come playoff time I believe or hope that will all change. Season and the Playoffs are totally different. EVERY POSSESSION COUNTS!!!! Barry has the experience and Wafer doesn't.

As for the Ron Artest situation. Yes I know that him re-signing is not a given. I said that in my earlier post. But like you said with McGrady missing the 1st part of the season the re-signing of Ron Artest seems more likely. Ron and Von are going to be free agents after this season. You have White under contract already for next season so you choose between Ron or Von. With the money DM plans on offering Wafer he could just add that to Ron's contract and hope that helps out.

with the current state of the economy and with seemingly every team getting ready for the FA class of 2010 I would be surprised if any team makes an offer to Artest that is better than what Rockets could offer them.

I would suspect there will be no overpaying any FAs this summer and any team under the cap may likely stay that way and prefer to get smaller contracts or draft picks really.

IMO artest is a piece that can take you over the top but not a piece that can get you to the top...you never want to overpay for a piece like that.

Wafer is more likely to leave since he will be looking for a much smaller ($ wise) contract than artest. Hopefully White can prove himself in the remaning practices and summer league this off season and earn himself a position next year

Is there really anyone out there that's worthy of getting paid that is going to be a free agent? The only guys I know are Iverson, Wallace, and Bibby. None of them deserves a max contract but Bibby I could say deserves something.

As for what you said about Artest taking you over the top. That sounds a lot like Shane Battier. I have to disagree with you slightly on that. Artest is a baller. He just has to learn how to control his emotions sometimes. For example The Lakers game.

If wafer is likely to leave because he would be looking for a smaller contract than Artest then wouldn't that mean he is most likely to stay depending on how he plays for the remainder of the year?? I would think that the front office would talk to him before they talk to Artest's agent.
