I guessed this is good news since it will push other guys to step up and compete for playing time.

Dude.....I understand what you're saying about Lebron but believe me, James Whites' fan base doesn't just consist of Rockets fans and a few guys who watch the HS dunk competetition......the man is legendary on the hoops scene...kind of like Skip to My Lou was before he became Rafer ;)

People are awful quick to give Morey kudos for the signing. What for? I understand there's no downside risk to this deal. But, it doesn't make the move ingenious either. I'll give him kudos if White actually does something.

Nice! Even if he gets zero playing time...we might get a chance to see him play at Fonde this summer if he decides to participate.

    The something they saw was,

low cost pickup who can get entered into All Star Weekend Slam Dunk contest, and razzle dazzle in some extra exposure and endorsement oppurtunities for the team in this weak economy
    ;)

I doubt his contract is fully guaranteed next season, like Mike Harris. But what it does in the present, not that he needed it, is it presents competition to Von Wafer. Will keep him motivated to keep pushing. Then might drive up his price even more and will have to make up some reason to lowball his market rate

    STUNNING.

Morey knows what he's doing and I love how he picks up players like White and Von Wafer who are just starting to fulfill their potential.

They obviously saw something good in him over those 20 days that made them sign him for a whole season.

This is something to be very excited for next season.

I see an asset in James White. I don't see James White as a keeper.

I see Scola, Artest, Yao, Hayes, Wafer, Brooks, Lowry, Landry as keepers.

Rest is up for grabs in trades in the next season or their contracts are ending.

Von Wafer could possibly be a Luther Head, but I see Luther Head as a BIG MISTAKE. I hope that people don't see Wafer as a mistake, but a very good decision.

Von Wafer will be signed again, because he is a very good commodity in the least. If anything, he would still contribute well to the Rockets even if we didn't trade him.

James White, I'm not sure where he will go.

Not many players from the D-League make it to the list of stars... I'm not going to keep my hopes up for White.

The only problem i see here is that this pretty much pushes Wafer out. I can't see him sticking around when he wants more PT and he'll be getting less now with white and tmac possibly coming back. Then either white pans out, or he pulls a Wafer, plays very well, only to leave a year later in search of more PT. So it just puts us back where we started. Hopefully one of these guys decides to stick around and we dont just keep the cycle going.

Spurs-Rockets players seem to thrive in the other's system -- former Spurs Mad Max, Brent Barry, El Skol! and hopefully James White in the Rockets system and for Rockets Mario Elie and Robert Horry in the Spurs system. What other players made the Houston/S.A. two-step?

White's contract can be leverage in regards to re-signing Wafer or insurance if they don't re-sign Wafer. Another benefit in giving him a contract now as opposed to in the off-season the Rockets can bundle White's contract into a trade on draft day or in free agency. If it's non-guaranteed that makes it even more appealing to other teams.

Why would Barry retire? He has a guaranteed contract for next season.

I don't understand people in here.

As of now Wafer is still not consistent and still makes stupid mistakes on the court. He isn't particularly great at anything but scoring therefore based on potential I doubt he get anything more than 2.5M a year.

Second, James White is Von Wafer insurance, really? Almost seems like what happened this offseason: "well if Landry goes we have Dorsey as insurance". That turned out well. lol.

Good, I am happy for the guy. He showed lots of quickness the other night against Minnesota. Now, granted he was playing in trash time but still, all I know is this:

    In Morey I Trust!

We have a crazy GM... Crazy in a very good way. Im pumped about the Rockets. Always a fan win or lose but they havent been so fun to watch in a long time, even during "the streak" last year. Someone posted about the Around the Horn show on ESPN not giving the Rockets any respect... Who gives a crud... The national media has always been jealous of Houston for some reason in general and in sports. Besides, let us fly under the radar... that is what we need with our young group of guys. No pressure.

I dont think Wafer will be leaving. The guy hasnt fit in other systems apparently, and he has been in plenty. He will re-sign. He has SOME security here at least.

Dorsey's been injured all season. If Landry wasn't re-signed Dorsey would have been the substitute to make up for that, ie the insurance signing.

The whole point of me saying this was that Dorsey sucked. Hell he hasn't even impressed in the D-league. I'm not saying he won't be a worthy player down the road but as of now that sure as hell would of blown up in everybody's face here on clutchfans.

This can't be emphasized enough. We finally have some athletic players on this team instead of one dimensional stiffs. Whoever said that this is essentially the Rockets' draft pick for next season made a good point as well.
