I was dreaming of this scenario all day. MJ with the TE and Wilcox with the MLE. Then I saw the money Nene got and I see that we are clearly priced out of the big athletic yet to break out power foward market.

Shows you how much of a steal Swift was, and yet we throw him away for nothing.

It will be interesting to see what West gets back for him when he deals him 7/12.

Would it be possible for the Rockets to somehow trade for J.R. Smith, and also sign Wilcox as a F.A.?

Realgm.com just posted that JR smith is not gonna play in the summer league. We need to go after him! With the hornets signing of Stojakovic and Bobby Jackson, theres not gonna be much PT for JR, and I think we can get him, he would give us great depth at guard and someone who can develop, its only his 3rd year. Get JR SMITH

If I remember correctly. The TE we have is less than MLE. I doubt James will agree to that while everyone is throwing MLE or even more at him.

our TE is 4.2M$, so yes, the MLE is more attractive ... but the salary can be increased faster than with the MLE (12.5% vs 8%) if i remember correctly

As I just posted in another thread:

If JVG doesn't want to play a non-veteran (i.e., Rudy Gay), why do board members insist on believing he will play J.R. Smith? Players with promise don't matter nearly so much as players who have experience. Of course, the caveat is "How does a rookie get experience?" on the Rockets. And, don't cite Luther Head's playing time. Because of injuries, JVG had no choice.

Correct me if I am wrong, TE is $4.2millions with annual increment of 12.5% as opposed to MLE which is $5millions with an annual increment of 8%. The contract is as follows:
    TE: ...3yrs contract = $15,663,910; 4yrs contract =$23,424,844
    MLE: 3yrs contract = $16,232,000; 4yrs contract = $22,530,560

It shows that if Rockets offer Mike James TE for 4yrs, it will eventually be more than MLE unless Rockets is only willing to give MJ 3yrs contract.

Just for clarification the TE in and of itself doesn't provide raises, it's the sign and trade that does it, and we just use the TE to make the trade happen. Also Feigan had it wrong when he gave that 12.5% number. It's 10.5%. And the raises don't compound.

Thanks, I appreciate the info very much. Damn, so TE is much lower than I thought.

I dont think any one that wants JR is routing for him to get max playing time! But at this point he is far from a rookie! All i am saying is if we can pick him up without giving up luther we will be set! Beacuse we then have a lot of trading pecies!

I actually think JR is worth more than Luther. JR is 6'6 and very athletic, and has the size to guard bigger two guards and even small forwards. He is also just as good of a shooter as Luther is, if not better. Keep in mind that JR was putting up good numbers his rookie year, and was also putting up decent numbers for the first half of last year before Scott gave up on him. JR is in very good shape, I heard he was around 2% body fat, and I think he would be good on the Rockets. He can provide at LEAST what Luther gave, and I think much more, he would really give us good depth.

JR Smith is the Hornets's problem. Let's leave it that way, OK.

If Luther is here next season it is because we could not move him. He does not fit into our plans- unless we don't sign MJ and he can be a good back up point- something I doubt. Or if we are stuck he will sadly be our back up 2 guard.

Hey, don't get me wrong. I'm all for it. I'd much rather have Smith than Luther Head. However, my point is JVG still won't play him because he has only a 1.5 years of playing time. Remember, he was benched during a lot of the second half of last season because he was in the coach's dog house. JVG doesn't trust anyone without 4 or 5 years of playing time.

Also remember that JVG must get past the first round this year or he's gone. Whereas I am pleased to have Battier, his cost was too high. IMO Gay could have played just as well, if not better, and he would have been a piece for our future as well. However, Smith falls into the same category as Rudy Gay. JVG would not play him except in garbage minutes.

Bottom line, the Rockets need to get younger and MORE ATHLETIC. Luther is athletic, but if we add the 6'6 JR Smith with T-mac like athleticism we will have a valuable asset on both the offensive and defensive end. Smith can run the floor, has a good stroke, and IF Van Gundy can motivate him, he has has all the tools to play good defense. Worst case scenario, he is a bench player like Luther, but if we get him and it works out, we are looking at possibly our starting shooting guard for the next couple of years

Mike Jones, Mike Jones....... blah blah blah........ Mike Jones........

Wasn't he part of our organization at one time?? was there a reason we didn't keep him on our team?? If I remember correctly, wasn't he a score first guy?? Has that changed??

I don't understand the deal with Mike Jones..... sure he's had a heck of a year in Toronto..... but why should we believe he'll produce as well for us?? I mean if he did, we never would have let him go to begin with...
