I like it. We need someone who can go in and get some blocks and play tough. If it doesnt work out then we can get someone else next year.
Someone on this Board bet the Tip Jar Hinrich would be playing for a team not named Chicago by opening night.
Mutombo got bought out of his contract with NJ, and then signed a much smaller contract with NY. He'll be making about $4.5 mill this year. Pike is getting about 2.7, Griff is .8, and if Wilks is signed to the minimum, that's about .6 = $4.1 million. It would work capwise even without the TE. And correct me if I'm wrong, but since the Bulls would be trading Mutombo by himself, they wouldn't need to wait 60 days to move him. That would be great if we could solidify our lineup pretty soon.
I know this would never happen, but imagine if we needed to go tall putting out C - Yao 7'6" PF - Mutumbo 7'2" SF - howard 6'9" SG - TMac 6'9" PG - Sura 6'5"
I believe Mutombo's final year is an option, and we would be crazy to pick it up for around 5M considering two things: - As a player gets older, the impact of each year on his game is bigger. - Hopefully, Yao will be able to play 35 minutes this coming season, and bump that up to around 36 or 37 minutes the following season. It wouldn't be a good idea to pay Mutombo 5M to play 10 minutes, especially when he can't play PF anyway. I suggest we don't pick up the option and trade Spoon's expiring contract for someone who can play the 4/5. Maybe we can deal Mo, who knows what kind of season he's going to have and he'd only have 2 years left.
Forgive me for being skeptical about this but our management does not usually announce formal offers to the media. Especially for a not so high profile player like Mutombo. It makes me speculate that there is another trade proposal that they really like and are using the media as a leverage to strong arm or bluff the other team. It's like saying, "I'm all in". Either way, I would be more than happy to get Deke.
i wondered if the pike would be enough for the bulls to give up deke, but now that we've upped the offer by throwing in blue chips like adrian griffin and mike wilks, well, i don't know how they can pass it up. how much is 0 minutes + 0 minutes?
If they were both healthy, I'm more than positive Pike would get AT LEAST 10 minutes, and I'm positive Griffin could've snatched 5 minutes from Boki. Yes, 15 minutes makes a difference. One good thing is that both Lue and Ward are good 3-pt shooters. We know JJ can hit 40%, and if Boki continues to improve on his game, then we've got a good bunch of shooters, as well as midrange scorers (MoT, Juwan Howard).
Lets not forget about Reece Gaines. I think he'll suprise some people in the preseason and steal somebodys minutes...maybe even wards!
i like how some of you are saying mutombo is the answer, the final piece to our puzzle, and they are gonna 'feel good about this team if we do this deal'. dude, hes like 70 years old, hes more of a negative than a positive when he steps onto the court, he sure as hell isnt gonna be able to spell yao for more than ten minutes, and he has TWO YEARS left on his deal...i dont want him anyway, but for TWO YEARS? screw that. anti-mutombo.
I don't know. I'd kind of get a kick out of it. Maybe then people will stop saying that Yao isn't mean enough.
gawd I hate the game of the cookie monster. If he was really a servicable big man I doubt the center starved teams he has been with would be so quick to ship him off. I guess if he has just a one year deal and we're shipping off useless parts it's worth the risk, but Dike as our prime c backup doesn't really reassure me.
