God...Mutumbo? If we're going to sign a bunch of guys in their 30's and 40's so that we have a very small window of opportunity, let's at least make sure said players are actually good.

Really, this is a great deal if it goes down. Almost perfect. I would be very excited about the team if this happens. Mutombo would only need to play around 15 minutes a night.

Honestly, Yao, Deke, MoT, and JHow might be one of the best 2 deep front courts in the league.

I'd love to have Mutombo as a back up. I'd prefer somebody younger but I can't think of anyone younger that is available that brings the things to the table that Mutombo can bring.

On a side note, I met Mutombo once and I over-heard somebody say "Is that Manute Bol?". He's so tall that it's actually hard to believe that he's ONLY 7'2".

if this happens then id say we can stop here for the season, or move spoon for anything get rid of his contract, but besides that if we do get mt. tumbo then damn, houston would really have a real good team in their hands.

    yao/deke
    howard/mo/spoon
    jj/tmac/boki
    tmac/sura
    ward/sura/lue

    wow, thats a nice team

Man, Mutombo as a Rocket. A great backup to Yao. But giving up Pike and AG? I understand AG was injured all year, but we never gave him a shot. Pike would be great off the bench, but if he is going to be the key along w/ AG....welcome Dikembe Koko Mutombo.

Since I doubt that we would get Sura, Ward, and Lue to battle over one position; I think Sura will be strictly restricted to playing the 2 guard and 3. He would only play the point for match up reasons.

    Yao/Mutombo
    Howard/MoT/Spoon
    JJ/Bokie/Sura/T-Mac
    T-Mac/Sura/JJ
    Ward/Lue

I would only see Sura play the point if he just absolutly stuns everyone with his three point shooting and defense. I think even if Ward doesn't play as well as Sura or Lue, he will still start for his veteran experience. It's also better that we don't create too much tension between all these players. I would rather them play to win rather than to start.

Mutombo's contract expires after this season correct? Are there any PF/C FA next year that we could easily replace him with?

Edit: I think that CD and company are also thinking about next year. With Sura and Ward, they don't have to worry about Lue leaving next year along with Mutombo.

Looking at the FA for next year, only Gadzuric, Marshall, and Troy Murphy (RFA) could be an upgrade at the PF/C for the right price.

If we live up to our potential with this team, the FAs could be banging down our door to get here. Besides, we're not looking for a primary 5, we are looking for a breather for Yao, that's all.

I don't think the window of opportunity is any smaller. Role players (with reasonable contracts) will come and go but the two superstars are here to stay.

This would be a great move. With our roster so far, Pike and Griff would be non-contributers, and Wilks wouldn't even be signed. And if I'm not mistaken, adding all those guys up would mean that we wouldn't need to use our TE to get Motumbo. Not that I'm saying there's necessarily anything we'd need for the TE, but it would be nice to keep it open just in case an opportunity opens up later this summer.

Doesn't Mutumbo make like 18 mil this year or something? Even with our trade exception, I cant see how that plus Pike, Wilks and Griffin add up to 15.3 mil. Someone double check me on these numbers, I'm not too sure of them

    Assuming this goes down...

Our centers are going to be an avg of like 7'4". In todays NBA thats incredible to have even two 7 footers. That's 15 feet of shot blocking lane clogging rebounding madness. This team looks 10 times better than it did 24 hours ago, and even then I was excited. I like the teams direction. We got better offensively while keeping things long down low.

I asked the same thing and was reminded that the Nets bought him out last year and he signed with the Knicks for a much smaller deal.

Mutumbo has 2 seasons left on his deal at about $5 million per, so that's not bad.

I still think that they are going to let Ward, Sura and Lue battle out for starters minutes at the one, but that will open up room for Sura at the two if Pike gets moved and it would give some space for Gaines to develop. It does unclog the guard spots but still leaves a bit of a log jam at the four.

We'll have to see how the Knicks want to proceed. They want out from under Mutombo's contract, IMO, even though it isn't huge, and they want guard depth, so this could help both teams, but we'll have to see.

you mean bulls. i dont know how much more gaurd depth they need. they have like 4 pgs signed. i dont know about their 2 gaurd situation. but it probably isnt as deep considering their interest in pike.
