i agree Rocketbooster, after all those years of the post up system with Hakeem and later with Barkley, last year was really refreshing to see. I can't watch any more Rockets games with the guard throwing it in to the post and waiting for the post man to kick it back out. I doubt Rudy will go back to that system though just because he got Maurice Taylor, if we get him. I think he will stick with the system now, but add a few wrinkles to get Mo more involved. ------------------ "See they pick and pick and pick. [/B][/QUOTE] Good thing about this move is that we still got $4.5M to make another aquisition. It looks like we are going to have a very good summer. ------------------ Hack a Shaq you'll be winning Hack-him you'll be dreaming.
Is there a team in the LEAGUE with a PF worse than Kenny?? Sign me up for the "Kenny Thomas Shouldn't be the Rockets Starting Power Forward foundation" !!! ------------------
It's hard to go wrong if you can get a starter to play for a $2.5 million contract at a position that is the weakest on the team. I just hope Rudy uses the same judgement he used in the draft. If the player you want isn't there then don't force it by taking a guy you don't really want just because he's a popular pick. ------------------ "Somebody DO something out there." -Bill Walton
I think Rudy knows that attacking the seams and breaking down your man off the dribble (ala Francis and Mobley) can be very effective especially in the regualar season and the first 3 1/2 quarters of a game. But come playoff time and the last 6 minutes of a game, alot of those seams close up with the game becoming a half court war. The rockets when called for have to have a player to effectively pound the ball down low and they currently dont have that. Having one bonafide low post scorer like Mo Taylor with Francis and Mobley buzzing all around the court would be a very tough tandem to contain. ------------------
How do Maurice Taylor's 17.1 ppg and 6.5 rpg compare against our current PF rotation? What? They don't? Oh, so why is everyone picking his game apart? Mo Taylor is a good, solid player. So he doesn't grab 10 boards a game....maybe he won't in Houston either. But he has the body, the skills, definitely the offense, and now may have the fresh start in a good organization that he needs. Plus, he runs the floor very well, and can finish on the break. Mo Taylor will be a blessing to this ball club, make no mistake. If nothing else, he is a vast improvement to what we have currently. Hold out for Webber? Grant? You have to do what you can to improve, and holding out is not the answer. SIGN MO TAYLOR! ------------------ HOOP-T ------------------

Gotta disagree with Jeff.. To me, I dont care where you play whether it be the clippers or the Lakers, you should bring the same level of enthusiasm and show up every game to play, period. This guy is soft, and I believe threatens our chemistry. I still gotta wonder how much of this is to make the Rocs appear "active" in this offseason what with the upcoming arena deal in Nov. If he comes I hope it is a one year deal, then it's sign and trade his butt outta here. ------------------
You should, but some players don't. Would you not get frustrated if your team is always WAY under the cap, but never tries to make any moves, and 3/4ths of the roster is full of misfits? Wouldn't it get disheartening if from the beginning of the season, your whole team knows that the odds of not being among the 5 worst teams are next to nothing? And then consider your cross town rivals (Lakers) have one of the most celebrated histories, and are picked by most to go the distance? All players should play motivated, but some play better in certain conditions. It's like saying all players should rise in the playoffs like Hakeem did in the Championship years. It'd be great to see, but just not possible in some cases. ------------------ The Serious Police are watching. Follow the rules or be assimilated. Shandon is underrated.
I can't believe people are complaining that we could get one of the better young power forwards in the leauge for $2.25 million. Am I hearing everyone right? Last time I checked, we could use some significant help at the 4. If he sucks or blows up, fine. You deal with him for a year and let him go or you trade him if this turns into a sign and trade, but would everyone really be more satisfied if we just did nothing? ------------------ Save Our Rockets and Comets SaveOurRockets.com
Taylor's post moves are alot quicker and more direct(not better) than Barkley's. He won't have to have the ball for 10 seconds to score. For reference his moves are more like Harrington's except that Taylor knows how to pass a whole lot better that Othella. This won't f*ck up our offense. That being said, I can't seem to make my mind on Maurice. I guess I'll have to trust Rudy on this one. ------------------ "Stranger things have happened, but none stranger than this" - Commentator after a parachutist landed in the ring of a Holyfield fight
It would, but there is a proper way to handle it. Go to work and put up numbers until its your turn in free agency, then leave on your terms. If you are cashing checks then you are obligated to put up numbers and keep your mouth shut. For me this goes to the chemistry issue. I would pass, but if MO shows, I hope he comes to play. ------------------
Who exactly is Mo gonna talk to? The Clippers management has absolutely NO idea what they're doing. He gave them a chance to sign him last year, but they screwed around. Compare his numbers to Rogers' last year as a Clipper. Every year, he was watching as another one of the team stars left....Loy Vaught, Lorenzen Wright, etc. etc. I can see your argument, but I don't think Rudy or CD would sign him, if they thought he'd have his Clipper land attitude. ------------------ The Serious Police are watching. I guess we don't have anything to loose. And I do believe if he comes we will make the playoffs, barring any major injuries (knock wood). I just feel like this guy is here for one year then he's gone, and that doesn't sit well with me. Of course if he does leave after one year, we'd be in good shape for Finley or Webber, 2 guys I would love to have on this team. And if MO comes and works his butt off, I'm sure he'll grow on me. ------------------
I agree you Jeff,we are getting a young gun for little or nothing for a one year trial.if he dosen't fit we could trade him mid-season when other teams need scorers for the playoff run.if he does fit we can have the leg up on signing him next yr,but i say he is a big up grade at the 4 spot.guys you must have forgotten we have one of the best rebounders to play the game on the coaching staff.Mr.Mean Smith will get him right in the rebounding. ------------------ Eddie for three...yesssssssssssss..holy mother
Hey guys, Let me ask all of you that are complaining about Mo's bad attitude some questions. Have you ever worked in a place where you had to drag yourself out of bed & would have given anything to find an excuse for not going in to work? Have you ever worked for bosses that don't give a rip about what you think? Have you ever worked for a company, that every move they made was directed toward more profit for the company & less benefits to the employees (yes, I do realize that businesses are there to make money)? Have you ever worked in a place where they had downsizing going on (as in quality free agents leaving as soon as they can)? I've been in these situations personally & it does affect your attitude no matter how strong your work ethic is. I've also left those types of situations & gone to work elsewhere & the most amazing thing happens. You're attitude changes. You have a reason to bounce (or in my case roll) out of bed in the morning. Quite simply put, you have renewed hope. However, that could all change if the new company exhibits the same don't give a rip attitude. The Rockets don't have that attitude. They care & have proven more than a few times that they will make the big deal if that's what it takes. Rudy & CD know what direction they want to go, the big difference is that Les supports them all the way. The man is not cheap. This teams focus is to win & keep winning. Why wouldn't MO want to come here? I haven't followed his game, so I'm relying on the knowledge of Rudy, CD, & the more knowledgeable posters on this sight as to whether or not he will help us. The bottom line is that the Clipps have & will apparently continue to have (Alvin Gentry?) problems keeping their best players. A new start with a great organization could be just the ticket & he won't cost us any of our current roster. I say go for it. ------------------
Hottoddie- Yeah, I have worked in places like that too. Difference was, they were not paying me a small fortune. Had they been, I would have kept my mouth shut and been thankfull for the opportunity. Big MO is just what this franchise needs, a PF who wont go to the glass or play D, but loves to jack it up. ------------------
I'm still skeptical over whether this is another one of Faulk's league games. Why are the two teams in the running Houston and Seattle (of all teams)? Out of those two, the logical choice would be Houston because of the void at power forward, and the young nucleus. It's so clear cut, it just doesn't make sense. If it were down to Houston and say a team like Cleveland (with the departure of Kemp) with a void at power forward, I would believe it, but the gap between Seattle and Houston is just too huge. Faulk has got to have something up his sleeve better than to settle for a measly exception. ------------------ "At least I screw sheeps..." - Corey Benjamin of the Clutch BBS.
