I know! Lets have a spelling contest. If Mutombo knew how old he was he'd probably be closer to 50 than 40, but he can still play the game. He still needs to show Yao that thing he does with his sharp elbows. You know when he impales the other guy right in the eye on their birthday in front of their home court.
True, but to be nitpicky, he used "the" instead of "to". Frankly, I don't concern myself with grammar and spelling due to the number of kids and foreign posters on our board, but the condescending "let this be a lesson to you all" deserved a giant STFU. Back on topic - It is vital that Deke be re-signed. He allowed Yao to make mistakes and covered for some of his deficiencies (consistency, aggression). I think the gesture made by Les to some of Deke's charities last year will go a long way towards him retiring a Rocket. I hope.
With respect to Deke, although he'd be hard pressed to find a contract with a team that has a greater chance to win a title next year than the Rockets (since there aren't too many that have come off of 50+ win seasons, and have superstars to build around comparable to that of McGrady and Yao), Dikembe doesn't need a "system" to be productive. He's been productive his entire career, including post-prime pre-Rockets stinks with the Knicks (6.7 boards and 1.9 blocks in 23 mpg in 2004) and Nets (difference-maker in the 2003 playoffs). Although I bleed for the Rockets and my love for Deke will shrivle and die if he signs with another team, frankly, we need him more than he needs us at this point. The stability he brings to our front court is immeasurable until Yao can consistently stay out of foul trouble, and I, for one, am glad that the 'intangibles' are keeping him in Rockets' red this year.
i remember when the rockets used the money for the tux n tennies to donate to his foundation he said that meant a lot to him....the rockets showed him a lot of love and this is the ideal place for him at this point of his career so i dont think money matters to him...he also said he would either sign in houston or just retire so i wasnt worried if he was gonna sign with us
lemme see if i can translate from faulk to english here: deke, you haven't received any bigger offers, so sign with the rockets. that seems about right. but whatever it takes, i'll be glad to have deke back aboard.
Little known fact, the Detroit - Indiana brawl was actually started over a grammatical error. Ben Wallace was simply pointing it out.
The "Cookie Monster" is arguably one of the top five of the centers in the league and would be a nice addition to any roster in the NBA except for maybe Miami . Deke is doing us a favor by committing to this team and it's vision, and I hope that we can repay him with a championship.
no offense or anything, but i feel like he is hitting on a major error committed very frequently on clutchfans. re-sign is very different from resigns and it's annoying to see them used interchangably. it's not like we're writing this for a grade, but clear communication works to everyone's advantage.
deke was considered washed up before jvg. a good portion of this bbs was apathetic to his aquistion last offseason and some were bitterly against it. i think that shows alot about what jvg and his system has done to utilize the skills that deke still has. he can certainly contribute to any team in the league but i completely disagree that he can be just as effective anywhere as he is here. in the end i think both sides know they're made for each other. deke loves van gundy, has said he wants to teach yao, and has said he wants to be a rocket. if deke has to take less to remain here, which i seriously doubt, than it definitely won't be much. i'm sure he also remembers that les alexander used his annual tux and tennies last season to benefit deke's own charity. i think it's more likely that matt maloney is our starting pg next season than deke being somewhere else.
No kidding. For anyone who has been living under a rock for the last decade, David Falk is the most evil, conniving agent around. Five years ago he was probably responsible for at least half of the ridiculously overpaid players in the entire league. And he had so much clout he often had a large say on whether or not trades went through. What happened? Falk, telling Deke to sign for less money? What, he get a death threat or something?
Mo Taylor was a Falk client. Not sure, but I think the only other Falk client the Rox had was Glenn Rice. Two contracts the Rockets had to pay to get out of. That certainly qualafies as evil in my book.
You're right. I guess I feel badly for all those who thought that Deke was going to be asked to submit his resignation, because NBA players do that all the time. Thanks for being the voice of reason.
He's evil? Did he put a gun to Carrol Dawson's head? Did he deceive Carrol Dawson and the franchise? Les Alexander agreed to sign and pay those two players. I call him a great agent
I agree with Crums. I think he made a valid point, while attempting not to pull your chain. I'm not sure why you responded with the rolling eyes. I guess you needed a little more attention.
Evil? not evil my friend, it's called business. The CIA shooting the leaders of countries and lying about it. Now that's evil. Like Osama, like Hitler, like Enron.
I am not sure I understand your post. Was it meant ot be funny or were you pointing out something I misspelled. Misuse is not misspelled BTW, however mispell is misspelled. I apologise if you were just jesting.
