Wasn't it $3 million in year 1 of the deal and a deal with a Chinese shoe company to make up the difference?

"Yeah, I'm gonna jump all over that, Mr. Morey."

We weren't allowed to offer Gortat more than the MLE, and Orlando was going to match the maximum we could offer.

Okay, screw it...sign Asik to 8 mil a year or more...with all this news that Goran wants 10 mil, along with the fact that Martin might be coming back (we will need someone back there to cover for KM's crappy defense), I think we need a defensive center more than ever.

    Unless we get Howard. :p

A 7 ft center who plays legit defense w/ limited offense.
Sounds worthy of of a 7-8mil range to me.

It is a lateral move from Dalembert, but a young Dalembert.

Plus his defensive play seems to be trending up
tho the sample is limited from his first year to his second.

Plus, by all accounts and from what I have seen, Asik is a 24/7 effort guy. Although Dalembert could be an effective defender he had too many instances where his "give a crap meter" seemed broken. This has been his problem his entire career. A D specialist can't turn it off & on. All this to say because of effort I see Asik as a significant defensive upgrade over Dalembert.

...just in on insider ESPN-NBA apparently Morey has made an offer to Asik...

Again, I would rather have McGee, but....

haha so we will pay a guy 7-8 mill a year for what he MAY do in 30 min a game, but won't pay Dragic 10mill a year for actual production?? Omer Asik is NOT a great Center… everyone remember Stromile Swift? his contract was based on what he MAY be able to do in 30 min, then we found out that he will put up same numbers in 30 min as he would in 15.. some guys are just good in small bursts of playing time..

we are about to seriously overpay a average player..

    Wrong game.

Asik is a restricted free agent. Ideally, we have to make an offer at a value which would be just at the tipping point of where the Bulls will decline to match.

Dragic is a free for all. Also, we have a good point guard (however disgruntled) under contract so, yeah.

We are seriously overpaying. Guy is AWFUL on offensive. Yeah I know his D, D, D. I highly doubt he puts up spectacular rebounding and block numbers when he has to allocate his energy for an entire game and not very limited minutes. He is a negative on offensive. Other teams will Hack-An-Asik (like the 76ers did in the playoffs...he missed both FTs that cost the Bulls the game). He's a liability on offense. We're going to need a dominant PF that picks up his slack on that end in the post and that will put alot of pressure on him. Don't get me wrong, Asik has his moments but he is overhyped because he came out of nowhere and isn't overpayed yet.

guy is gonna be unproven and overpaid - pass!

I'd rather had an Okafor type - a known midlevel commodity...

You'd have to trade Parsons. Otherwise, It'd be too awkward... like having Kobe and the chick he raped on the same team.

If Asik is willing to come to Houston , he's the best center available that does so I say we take him. I'd rather have a un proven center trying and wanting to be here rather then team drama that ends up in a trade.
