Now, let me say the most important attribute for the color guy is that he must be as likable to my wife as Calvin. As king of my domain I know that if the queen ain't happy with the telecast then this king will tossed down the throne.

 

You just knew it was gonna be ax ex-Knick or Comet person. Who in Huuston gives a damn about the Knicks and the Comets = High School level Basketball.

I have the DirecTV League Pass and with Bill and Calvin, we had one of the best broadcasting teams. I think the camaraderie between Bill and Calvin made Bill a better Basketball Announcer. (Bill sucks at baseball anouncing). We are gonna be one of the worst now because Bill is gonna be boring without Calvin and Van's dialect is as comprehensible as Mushmouth's from the Fat Albert cartoons.

Bill ~ What would say in the Comets huddle in a situation like this?

Van ~ "Wun we haf peeple to caum ova ta my huhdle, they wont ta shewt tha basketball..thas win i wood tell dem give da ball to cuhper..let her dribble in to a triple team and shewt a shot tha haz no chaince of gowing in...din Tina or Swoopes get da rebound den...dey get at shewt 8 or 9 timz till it funally goez in. dats Comets basketball Bill."

 

I really enjoyed Calvin. He added great insight in a very colorful manner. I think Van would be an outstanding choice to replace him. They both have great knowledge of the game, and neither of them sound like your generic newsman.

I vote for NONE OF THE ABOVE. My personal favorite is Bull, but their have been several posts to validate that all the canditates discussed suck! So why not think outside the box, and look for someone besides the poeple we are already familiar with?

Yeah... the way Van talks should be illegal. It definitely assaults the eardrums.

Bill and Van = Bust.

 

Van: His accent is the worst of the bunch. He sometimes goes too technical in his analysis. Some of us here can understand him but the casual fans will have some problems, I think.

Bull: Decent knowledge, OK with the delivery, but nothing special.

Cooper: Good knowledge, not so good in the delivery, but she has improved. She actually did OK doing the colors for the Comets.

Barkley: I enjoy his one liners immensely when he was playing, but he did not impress me on TNT.

Newlin: My candidate, best all around choice in the group.

 

C'mon you guys... you need personality and as far as the accent, one could definitely get used to it. Van Chancellor is a pefect choice.

Newlin's lisp is a little distracting at times but he does know the game.

Cooper's straight up awful. She makes pedestrian observations and ums.. and ahs.. too much.

Bull is the proverbial deer in the headlights announcer. He is too quiet.

Barkley will cost too much money.

The worst ever Rockets announcer = Barry Warner.
