The rest of the story is after CD and Lindsey talk to Mike, Les is flying in and they are having a private poker game between Les and Mike James. Les is going to have trouble holding his cards as they constantly flip on the table. Mike James is going to clean up to the tune of about $8 million off of ole Les. Shortly after the game, MJ is going to announce he is signing a 4 year contract with the Rockets starting at $4.2 million.

Yes, sign both of them. Banks gives us a young 1/2, and obviously James comes in as our 3rd creator and an immediate integral part of the team. Resign Bogans. Then with Battier and Mcgrady playing stretches at 2,3,4 (and 1 in macs case) that is a solid lineup for 1,2,3 down the line. Alston, James, Banks, McGrady, Battier, Head (with Bogans stepping in when a lenghty defender is needed) Then we just have to worry about adding a legit PF and we could be contenders.

I think Banks is the Plan 'B'. If we can land MJ we'll go after VSpan. Here're some information.

Yes, I stand corrected. But MINN is still in a weird situation at the guard spots. Isn't Foye a combo? In addition to Banks and Ricky Davis, they've also got Hudson, Hassell, Jaric, and the injured McCants.

That's 6 players not counting McCants. Somebody has got to be expendable. Banks for sure seems a candidate if we can get James in a SnT.

Yea i cant see the rockets signing both banks and james. For one if we get James, banks isnt going to want to sign on a team who already has 2 starting caliber point gaurds. Banks has to be the Rockets contingency plan if they lose out on James. Im excited about the idea of having James come back as i have felt his toughness and ability to be a third scorer was a perfect fit for this team. What worries me is offering him our entire MLE while there are still needs that need to be addressed on our team. Not counting players that can be resigned as of today, our lineup looks like this...

    C- Yao / Mutumbo
    Pf- Howard / ? / Hayes
    SF- Battier / ? / Novack / Bowen
    SG- McGrady/ Head/ ?
    PG- Alston/ ?

The addition of James would gives us more depth in the back court coming off the bench backing up alston or vice versa or could also be used in the starting line up at the 2 slot when going up against teams with quick back courts (such as the Mavs in Terry/Harris) and have battier and howard rotate on who matches up better. But the James addition still leaves us pretty weak depth wise in the front court where we still need a back up PF/C and SF. Deke is getting up there in age and his skills arent getting any better, and Hayes, while serviceable, could still warrant an upgrade at the backup 4 position. Resigning Bogans as a back up 3 doesnt sound all too bad to me, as he proved to be a decent scorer and defender with an okay shooting touch, where his contract wouldnt count towards the cap in terms of going out and getting outside help with our MLE. BOttom line is i can't see the rockets using their entire MLE on James when there are still glaring needs on our team, and hope more James want to play for Houston over money sways his decision our way

Pursuing Marcus Banks doesnt look like plan B.

    On Minnesota roster,

    PG:Marko Jaric/Troy Hudson

    SG:Randy Foye/Trenton Hassell/Rashad McCants

Where is the position of Marcus Banks?

We are going to use TE(4.2M) on Marcus Banks through S&T.

Remember JVG's shopping list - a PF with range, and 3 PGs. Sura is probably a pipe dream, so maybe they would carry Alston, James and Banks. It just seams like there wouldn't be enough PT, however, to keep them happy.

If we get James we don't need Banks, plus why the hell would banks want to come here then?

Also JVG stated clearly the Rockets need 1 pass first point guard, and 1 shoot first point guard, with a 3rd string calibre point guard behind them.

Obviously Banks is plan B, but it looks real clear that james will be a Rocket soon.

    LOL - Good one!

And if we can get Gator's line-up, I may have an easier time forgetting the night of June 28, 2006.

First, great news about CD/Linsey meeting MJ on Thursday. If MJ is fine with the MLE from the Rockets and the only catch is "up front money" then "what catch"? Get it done. Remember, the course is set! Win Now!

If the Rockets can somehow get MJ in a S&T with the Raptors with our 4.2M TE then that would be golden. Just throw the Raptors a 2nd round pick for their efforts.

That leaves the MLE available for another player. Fred Jones, Rasual Butler, Jumaine Jones, John Salmons, Jared Jeffries etc.

Marcus Banks looks like plan "B" to me if we dont get MJ, which I think we will. However, if we get MJ AND we somehow get Banks with the MLE, then that means Rafer is as good as gone.

Maybe ship Rafer and a 1st round pick to the Hawks for Josh Childress? They could use a backup PG, a 1st round pick they lost to the Suns in the JJ trade. And we get a swingman with height. Without looking at the stats, Childress looks like a Moreyball type player to me.

How excited would you be to have a lineup of James, Childress, Tmac, Battier and Yao on the floor? That looks pretty good!

I'd rather get Banks and a decent 4 than James and garbage if that is what it will come down to. Banks can play.

Childress would be a better option than Banks.

I think Mike James deal will be done. The only thing is the length of the contract. James is our best option. We are his best option. He will get more playing time here than elsewhere.

Can't wait to see this Mike James deal get done!

Would like to see the Roxs pick up Lorenzen Wright or even Cato as well.

Rox are a long way from hosting a p/o series. They need to be emboldened, golden, and probably a wee bit lucky.
