Well, he was with the Celtics until this season (when he was traded to Minnesota) so I'm sure Morey is very familiar with Banks. I'd assume he's the one interested in him, so at least we know the Rockets have a good idea of what they'll get from Marcus Banks.

What are you talking about? He's at 47% and 46% for the past 2 years. Decent assists, decent 3 point, 80% FT- I say grab this guy!

I don't know if Banks would be needed if we can get James. James is a better all round player and can be used at 2 guard as well as the one. If we can get Jeffries along with James we would be in good shape but I don't think we can get him from the Wizards.

I like Banks' upside, I think he could become another one of those score-first PGs in the league alas Marbury, Francis, and even Mike James. He has that potential, IMO.

I would guess that Marcus Banks is a Plan B in case we can't get MJ to sign with us.

Looks like Marcus Banks may be better than advertised. His field goal % has improved every year since he was drafted, and his assist numbers increased dramatically after being traded to Minnesota and getting more minutes. If eventually we have to settle for him, it wouldn't be a bad choice.

I think he'd be a great addition, but i'd like to see him sign with a team where he could get significant minutes as a starter. I'd love him here as a back-up, but for his career i think another team would be more beneficial for him.

Yeah he is the plan B. If we could send our TE plus a 2nd round pick to the Wolves we could still use the MLE but the Wolves probably won't agree to it since they are in the Western Conference.

would Marcus Bank be insurance if we don't get James? I dont see them adding ANOTHER 6'2 guard to the roster if we sign Mike James. We STILL need a 2 that can defend and who will be cheap! (Actually, i think we already have that in Keith Bogans)

If they Sign James and Banks, then someone is out the door you think?

Ch 2 just reported that Duffy says that Mavs and Jailblazers have offered deals for MJ. Additionally we are the front runners. We have offered the MLE. Only question is upfront money.

    A little blurb from MJ.

Yao is the best center in the NBA and TMAC is the best player in the NBA.

    A little blurb from r-fan-since-81.

    MJ is coMing!

Some of ya'all are missing the point about Marcus Banks. If we somehow managed to land Banks (because the James deal was SnT and we'd have a full MLE), Alston is as good as gone.

Or, if (and I still don't believe it) Battier is the PF, it's James and Banks at PG and whatever SG we can land with Juwan + Alston + a picks.

Given MINN drafted Brandon Roy and they've had additional issues with Eddie Griffin...I'd consider Banks + Ricky Davis for Juwan + Alston + Luther Head + possibly protected 1st round pick....

    James / Banks
    Davis / Bogans
    TMac / Rybo / Novak
    Battier / Hayes / Novak
    Yao / Deke.

And we'd still have a full MLE....Pryzbilla? Salmons? Jumaine Jones? Rasual Butler?

With the rapid pace of free agent signings, Thursday seems like an eternity from now. Banks and James are pretty much the last two starting caliber free agents left. If we can’t sign one of them, we’re in a lot of trouble. I’m hoping the Rockets just sign whichever will agree to sign first and if it ends up being Banks, so be it. It’s too risky to play the waiting game, considering how desperate the Rockets are for talent and how quickly the free agent pool is thinning. Actually, if both Banks and James demand a 5 year deal, I would be tempted to go with Banks due to the large age difference. If it’s 3 years or less, definitely gotta go with James.

only problem is that minn got foye and not roy and would therefore have no pressing need for rafer. additionally, with last years pick (i forgot his name) out with micro-fracture surgery for six months plus, they will be leaning heavily on ricky davis.

It seems all but certain that James is coming to the Rockets and will agree to terms on thursday at some point. I don't think Banks is a backup deal though. I think Houston wants both James and Banks on the roster next season. If we could somehow get both we would definetly eqaul with the Spurs,Mavs and Suns. Go Rockets!!!

Erm with James, Alston, Head and Banks, how many PG's/undersized SG's do we need on the roster. I'm thinking Banks is the backup plan, and if we land one or the other, we'll be looking for a defensive minded SG or an extra big man.

Banks' best game last season was against the Rockets, 12 of 19 for 26 points. It's a Rockets' tradition to sign or trade for players that have career games against them, almost like they are not scouting other games.

Mike James looks like a done deal. I have absolutely no problem at all adding Marcus Banks to our team. We still need a taller SG as a starter. If we sign both guys, either Rafer or Luther must go. We don't need 4 small PGs unless we plan on giving MJ and Luther a lot of time at SG. In that scenario, Bogans comes back as a defensive role player against big SGs. That isn't good enough.

Plus we have the PF problem. I suppose we could sign a big body on the cheap. The bottom line is after signing MJ, we still have two glaring needs at SG & PF.

I don't think that rule applies in this scenario. Again, Banks and Morey have spent the last few years in Boston together. I'm sure the Rockets are fully aware of what kind of player Banks is.
