The Bulls don't want Shane Battier. Chicago already has $70 million invested in Luol Deng, plus they just drafted James Johnson. Besides the Bull aren't trying take on long salaries since they want to make a run at D-Wade during the next off-season...
Disagreed. I won't argue that I was convinced he had something left in the tank because I agree he looked spent while still with SA, but the move at least made some sense at the time for us. Aside from Battier and Head, Morey had pretty much weeded out all the shooters on our roster. While I agree totally that this team needed(s) athletic slashers, any basketball team centered around a player like Yao will always need knockdown shooters. I mean, it almost makes too much sense when you factor in how Yao probably gets doubled more than any big man in the league. For LLE money (less than $2M) I was willing to endorse this signing due to the move's upside in a perfect world: veteran leadership, high basketball IQ, knockdown shooter, 6'7" versatile player capable of logging minutes at multiple positions. In theory, his signing made a lot of sense. Clearly, the move didn't work out but I am a firm believer in judging roster moves both by their outcomes and by their situations at the time of acquisition. Just because the move didn't work out doesn't make it a bad move. The fact that some people are having a fit over a Morey swing-and-miss on a fricken LLE player just goes to show how strong Morey's track record is.
Baller4life, it was a bad move. Now whether you or V.3 want to admit it or not, that's up to you. No matter if yao, shaq, kareem, or dream was on this roster, he didn't make sense at the beginning of the free agency period when no other team wanted him.If he was worth being that floor spacer like you say, why didn't the spurs make a effort to retain him? He had a 20 pt game in the playoffs and avg 5 ppg for the entire playoffs. He couldn't defend any swing spot nor was he capable of playing big minutes when tracy goes down. The spurs decided to upgrade with a 28 yr old combo named mason vs a 37yr old with a recent injurry history. Look,we can say it was only a lle and that's true to a point, but his 2m against the lux tax cost the team double and a roster spot. I'm sure morey can buyout or settle for the free money, so in that regards, I see it as no big deal. Baller,do you think your beloved steelers would pull off such a signing?
Then moving T-Mac to them might be a possibility? Of course, it might be better if we give T-Mac a chance to redeem himself here. Whether it is for his future with the Rockets or just raising up his trade value.
The fact that it didn't work out makes it bad move -- I can admit that. All I am saying is you also have to consider the logic behind the move and, logically speaking, it was a solid move to make. Having said that and combined with the fact that it was fricken LLE money, it at least makes it a justifiable mistake. And you just answered your own question about the Spurs -- Buford went with a younger, better player. Buford's decision to go with Mason over Barry wasn't necessarily an indictment of Barry. Although, I do agree that Barry looked pretty much spent in his final games as a Spur. As for the Steelers, we generally don't sign old guys. Old guys in football tend to not last unless you're a QB or kicker.
leebigez, your problem is that you're making this some large blunder that should have cost Daryl's job, and if he would have listened to you and get those scrub players that you've been repeating like an armchair GM that needs to be heard from, that the Rockets would have been on the brink of a title so that you can crow to anyone who cares to listen about your bball acumen. Brent Barry's signing hasn't been that much of a negative to the Rockets as you've been trying to make it out to be, just like the Rockets wouldn't have fared that much better with all your Executive of the Year ideas.
He was a big "0" for the Rockets, a real disappointment. Despite his sharpshooting past, he couldn't seem to hit a shot for the Rockets.
I read some comments in this forum and some people suggest he lost his mojo with the Spurs. I think ya'll are wrong. He was injured his last year with the Spurs. And I still think if T Slack was healthy last year, Barry would of helped more then he did last year. I say this because when healthy McGrady had the ability to drive and kick out to the open shooter. After Mcgrady, there was no one else that had that kind of play making ability to use Barry in a correct way.
It was pretty obvious he was done way before the season was over. He was a dog in Houston. Good career. Good guy. Pathetic stint as a Rocket. Enjoy retirement Brent.
Me either really. But we can dream. On the other hand,..............Battier would be wanted in Cleveland as they look to get past Boston and the Lakers. Z would be something they could give up........and if we throw in Landry and they sent us back Hickson....it might work. Battier would give them a starting 5 of Lebron, Mo, Battier, Shaq, and either Landry or that knucklehead kid from Brazil at the 4. That would make them pretty tough on both ends of the floor. Another move that makes some sense to me would be getting Troy Murphy from Indy. We give them cap relief in the form of our expirings. They also get a very good defender in Shane. They gotta give us something back. We get Brandon Rush. Throw in some spare parts to make it work. How bout Landry Cook and Barry for Camby?
Just so people know, if the Rockets buy out Barry's contract, the buyout amount will be what counts against the luxury tax, not his full salary. For instance, if the Rockets buy out Barry for $1M, then he will end up costing Les Alexander a total of $2M ($1M in salary and up to another $1M in luxury tax). The buyout would save Les about $2M next year. If the Rockets are unable to trade Barry (plus a little cash) to another team in the next couple of weeks, that is.
Barry had a few nice games for us regardless. The money we payed him was justifiable for a 3rd string shooting guard, and that's exactly what he was. Nevertheless, his value in everyone's mind would be much higher if Tracy and Yao were healthy. I don't see how anyone could predict those injuries in the first place. Also, if I remember correctly, several teams wanted Barry. Barry wasn't a bad signing, but Wafer was just better than everyone expected.
