My question is: Does Preston Wilson make Willy T expendable? Does this move lend credence to the Willy T for Jose Contreras rumors?

    (Guess that's two questions ...)

I'm just wondering because, with a healthy Bagwell, we would have four starting OFs plus Chris Burke. Makes you wonder if another deal is on the horizon.

For the record, I'd be real hesitant to part with Willy T for a #3 pitcher. He showed me a lot in the World Series, and I think he's going to be a solid player as he continues to learn how to be a major league hitter.

I agree, however, that signing Wilson is a great pickup this late in the game. I'd much rather pay him $6MM than Nomah, who might not play more than 40 games.

OK, so who sits assuming Bagwell is at first? Lane? Berkman?

    Obviously, I know it's not Berkman. ;)

I don't care if Willy T is a Black Hispanic. He is still black. I will also be including Astacio as black.

Preston Wilson has very bad knees. I don't know how long he can hold up. Before his knee problems he had been a 30-30 guy for one season and 20-20 twice.

Looks like more of a panic move to me. Preston Wilson isn't THAT much better than what we already have, not to mention the guy's injury prone.

Bagwell being an everyday player is still a very big "if" so it's a problem i'd like to have.

Why is there this obsessive fascination of comparing every possible free agent to Jason Lane? We dont know what any player can do at MMP. The numbers are only numbers.

It's not a quota issue it the fact that if wilson or burnitz is a better outfielder than burke .Yeah it would be nice to have a english speaking Black player on the team. Houston was the only team that didn't have a Black player last year know that get a chance to improve the culb an sign a black player if he is better than what the team has to offer in the outfield.

Possibly because if Bagwell is healthy then Lane might be the odd man out, so if the player is not noticeably better than Lane, there would be no reason to spend a lot to sign him.

this is like insurance in the event bagwell can't play, huh?? or does it speak to the team's feelings on whether bagwell will be able to play?

But people act as if that is the only "fact" involved, and that's what is so stupid about this argument. How about some other "facts"?

--What if someone else offeres PW $8Million? Are the Astros "racist" because they won't overpay for another Jason Lane?
--What if PW signs elsewhere because he likes the team's chances better, or because it's closer to his home? Damn racist McLane.
--What about all the African Americans in the Astros' minor league system? Who's in charge of promoting these players? Damn racist Hunsicker.

I've got one word for this stupid argument, and it's not allowed on this forum. But I bet you guys can guess it: BULL$#$@.

It's hard to say. There are a few possibilities:

    1. If Bagwell can't play, then they have a proven outfielder.

    2. If Bagwell can play, then they have some trade possibilities and can include Lane or Burke in a deal without siginificantly impacting the team in 2006.

    3. If Bagwell can play and they don't make a trade, then they have more flexibility. They can rest Bagwell more often. They can make late inning defensive maneuvers and not lose as much offense. Even with an outfield of Wilson, Taveras and Berkman, Lane could get 3 starts a week with Bagwell getting rest.

Of course, the best scenario is that Bagwell returns to form, Wilson plays like he did a couple of years ago and Lane provides pop off the bench.

    Here's how I see it:

White Sox team that's full of black star players hammers an all-white Astros squad and sweeps them in the World Series.

This OBVIOUSLY means that we don't have enough black players, which means the only way we win a WS is if we load up on black players like the White Sox did.

It's such an obvious thing I don't see how ANYONE could've missed it!

With Ausmus and Everett still hitting 7/8, I wonder if any of this even matters.
