Mark Berman of Fox 26 is reporting reporting that Antowain Smith's agent says that there is a 90% chance Smith will sign with the Texans next week. He worked out for Kubiak eariler this week. Miami Dolphins are making a late charge to sign Smith. I think there is no guarantee he will make the team if they do sign him. My guess is he will compete with Wali Lundy for 3rd string spot. Having a guy a like Antowain is invaluable. He is a proven winner and he works really hard. Do you think Antowain still has some gas in his tank? He is 34 but he had a 4.0 yard per carry avg last year for the Saints.

Bring the U of H alum back to Houston! I think that would be a pretty good signing, IMO.

Smith is a home town hero and a champion. The Texans better sign him. If they don't, I'll stop rooting for them and root for whatever team he goes to.

90% chance of thunderstorms in DFW on Saturday the 6th of May...

90% chance that Antowain Smith is done (see Eddie George...and Smith is no EG)!

Completely different players. When used in a part time role, Smith can still be a useful back, as seen by his 4.0 yards per carry last season at 33. Eddie George couldn't carry for more than 3.4 after he turned 28.

I like it...Smith isn't an every down back anymore, but he can be a useful complement, change of pace guy, and we could probably give him some carries to help out in case DD has to miss his yearly 2-4 games with some injury or another.

Both Morency and Lundy are young and inexperienced. Smith is old but he'll provide a little insurance in case DD goes down.

Houston needs a goalline back. Bush...I mean, Davis needs someone to pound it in as he's more of a between the 20's back.

I was expecting Jonathan Wells to fill this role. Anybody care to compare Jonathen Wells and Antowain Smith? I like Wells and would like to see what he can do behind a Denver like line.

No wonder they didn't draft Reggie Bush . . . they had their eye on Antowain Smith ;)

Yeah I think with a move like this the Texans can deflect some of that heat off them for not drafting VY or Bush, oh yeah UH draws like 13K a game and nobody cares about them.

Oh well on a serious note, Smith will not command anything more than a one year deal and Wells will be looking for more.
