My New Common Sense political party ideals:

    1. Pay off all national debt. Yes, I said all. Take measures neccesary to do this. Pay off the 9 trillion+ in debt, including 4 trillion to China. The extra money we will generate from not having to service the debt will be enormous, even more than we are currently spending in Iraq each year, and represents 13.4% of current US government spending.
    2. Keep rights of people to bear arms. People want their guns, and if you don't, well, too bad, amigo. The freedoms and liberties of the republic are predicated on the slight fear of armed rebellion. Not to mention, this is clearly a detriment to any would-be invaders.
    3. Keep abortion legal. Women can make their own decisions, and should not be forced to make even more abhorrent decisions. Essentially, you can get the hell out of people's business.
    4. Keep the church out of the state, but let people be free to practice their religion. Don't tax churches. Don't fund religious schools with state money.
    5. Once debt is paid off, dramatically lower all income taxes, but not a second before then.
    6. Encourage the development of green technology, even to the extent of subsidizing the development of improved solar technology and the subsequent implmentation of it across the US. Encourage the development of battery-powered cars which could be charged by this non-fossil fuel based power grid. US companies shoudl take the lead in the global transformation to utilize less-destructive technologies, creating jobs and saving the world.
    7. Maintain train lines, but design more efficient trains, especially those for transporting people over long distances. Airplanes are incredibly inefficient, and low-power, light weight, high-speed trains would be a reasonable solution. There's no need for commuter trains to be as large and heavy as they currently are, which were essentially based on freight train platforms.
    8. Eliminate pork-barrel legislation. Possible solution: Put limits as to how much funding can go to a single district (maybe based on a rubric of land size and population). Create a balanced budget ammendment.
    9. Help the poor, but in a better way. Help them to do better. Teach them useful skills. Demand more from them as Americans, and inspire the young to grow up to make the world a better place. Too many poor people are caught in a trap of generational poverty, and the families stay poor generation and generation. This has to end, and the culture of handouts needs to change.
    10. Fix social security. You can't NOT PAY a bunch of elderly people who need subsistence income, but encourage young people to begin saving for their own retirement at an early age. Publicize the tax benefits (and benefits of compound interest) in programs like Roth IRAs. I don't think mandatory privatization will work because the current payments from young people fly right out to pay old people, but eventually (15 years from now) after the baby boomers start dying off, this might be a possibility.
    11. Foreign policy - New (old) American policy: "Don't start none, won't be none." Don't attack countries who never attacked us, this is immoral. Countries (or terrorist/guerilla individuals) who have attacked us must be brought to their knees in an immediate and dramatic fashion. No one may harbor anyone who has attacked us. We have never had a military designed to occupy enemy ground, we have a military designed to repel invaders, take ground from enemies and destroy them (then leave), and to protect the weak. Continue to aid Israel and other friendly nations who stand against powerful foes, but try not to get drawn into conflicts.
    12. Illegal immigration should be legitimately discouraged, but legal immigration should be a reasonably simple process that doesn't take 20 years. It should take at most 5 years to become a citizen, and it should not require thousands of dollars, like the newly implemented procedure. English should be declared the national language of the United States, for the purposes of simplicity and ability to communicate for business, law, etc.
    13. Disaster response should not be headed by a political appointee, but by someone in the field who works their way up. Outside the box thinking is crucial.

These are a few ideas that I have that I think a strong majority of Americans agree with. Maybe not on every point, but enough. We need a change in America and both parties are bringing us financial despair. But partisan politics aside, it is truly time for something more grounded in pragmatism than dogma.

i pretty much agree with ALL of these points. nice very nice.

and TJ sometimes you truly SUCK. your really going to lay the blame of economic crisis of this country to democrats??? seriously

when republicans have had the whitehouse for 8 years and all but last term have had the majority in the house or at the least an even senate.

im not saying you should think that the dems can correct this problem or that they have a better plan. but you have to admit the repubs have screwed things up. unless i guess you think all this was unavoidable because of a war we had to fight in iraq etc.

but to sit there and say its the dems fault because the they have had a majority in the house for two years. go for it.

I agree with most of these. If there is party with these platforms, do people think it will be more popular than the Republicans and Democrats?

This all happened because of irresponsible lending practices and subprime mortgages? Now, we the taxpayers are having to pay for it? Figures.
