d-leaguers still count against your roster cap. my guess is: novak, brooks (?) to the d-league. sura cut, harris cut, reed cut. jl3 to someone for cash and possibly a 2nd rounder.
My thoughts on cuts. Sura Reed JL3 Landry But I believe a trade could happen which changes the cuts. DD
Guys that we have rights to in the D-league count on our roster. I think that a trade is already in the works.
Clutch, If you see this could you tell us if Novak is showing anything special in the scrimmages? Because, I like Harris and RA likes Harris, so win win
It's too early to say. Harris and Lucas are the longest shots to make the team and Sura's contract has to go. After that, I think we will see some trades to trim the roster. If not, then Morey didn't play his hand right as we have moveable, expendable assets.
Our assets are expendable, but I doubt many teams are going to offer anything for who we are trying to get rid of. As you noticed almost everyone has JL3 being cut, and other teams probably see this too. Why trade assets for someone whose likely going to be cut? Anyways I hope we cut Sura, JL3, Reed and Novak. I like what I saw from mike harris during the summer leagues and Adelman seems to be pretty upbeat about him, so I hope he makes the team as he would make a good fit in a motion offense or if we need to go small against teams like the warriors, who will certainly try to force yao into a heart attack by running all game.
i remember reading somewhere that les would not mind going past the luxary tax this season, can anyone confirm this? Saying that it will meant that money was not a factor of who will be cut but the performance that he put up in camp. Guys that are confirm in Yao, Deke, Butler, Scola, Hayes, Battier, Bonzi, Tmac, Head, James, SF3, AB. Guys that may be on the trading blocks Novak, RA, Synder, reed, harris, landry Guys that are out no matter what. Sura, JL3 Guys that i hope can stay from those who may be on the trading blocks. Novak, harris/landry. Meaning guys who get cut/trade are RA, Synder, reed and JL3.
If only Novak shows some damn composure out on the court (especially when playing defense), he would've done well as a poor man's Peja under RA's system.
Make that a beggar's version of Peja. I think Alston is most likely in. He seems to have impressed Adelman with his ability to run an offense. Guys who are definitely out are JL3, Sura and I would say Reed. After that, my guess is Landry goes. And lastly, either Harris or Novak will go.
Why are people on this BBS just ASSUMING that Justin Reed will automatically be cut and that Jackie Butler has a reserved spot on the roster? It will actually cost the Rockets MORE to cut Reed than to cut Butler. According to some of the interviews from training camp, Reed has played pretty well. Plus, with the re-signing of Deke and with Adelman already saying that he'll play Scola and Hayes together for stretches, it is quite likely that Butler will not play at all this year. Other than Sura and JLIII, I don't think there are ANY clear cuts on this team. Let Adelman and Morey sift through the roster and see what they have in practice. Hopefully, Morey can pull off a trade or two, but Adelman will decide who he likes and who isn't right for this system.
I like to go by the people that I have heard nothing positive about during camp Sura - duh Reed Novak Landry Snyder Bonzi - his only positive is he ain't as fat as usual, oh yeah and he's smiling I'd like to hear what clutch has to say about JL3's play. Lucas plays much more like Brooks or MJ than Rafer, IMO he fits the mold of the guards we aquired this off season. We just don't have room for him.
If I were guessing, and basketball is the number one reason for decisions, I'd guess that Sura, Lucas, Novak, Bonzi, and Landry will be cut.
I think the three presumably written-in-stone goners are Lucas III, Sura and Harris. Novak might also have to go but he's not as much of a done deal. I don't like the idea of Landry leaving. After all, he was one pick out of guaranteed money and we spent $1 million in getting him. Cutting him before he even suits up for us will make Morey look bad. Snyder is a better player at this point but he won't get any playing time behind the point guards and Wells this season. I'd like to see Morey move him for a trade exception and a second-round pick.
Because at the end of the day, it's a balance between money and talent. Morey has to deal with the money side of things, while Adelman has to deal with the talent side of things. And for Reed, he's a borderline NBA journeyman at best, and his contract isn't bad enough to make anyone balk at cutting him for better players. Another thing being he has not shown much in training camp. If you're fighting for a roster spot and you don't impress the coaching staff and players enough to rave about you to the media, chances are you're doing just fine, which is not nearly enough with this roster. Butler will probably not get cut because of the potential tag he has on him. And for the fact that Deke is 41 and is our only legitimate backup Center. Scola is undersized. You need Butler as insurance out there, if only to fill the inactive list. I don't get why people are saying Bonzi will get cut. If anything, Snyder will get cut before Bonzi. Bonzi might be a headcase, but he's a proven NBA player, and a pretty good one at that. And by all accounts, his injury is legitimate. It's not like last year where he clearly was zoning out. Snyder still hasn't proven to be anything more than a fringe player. Of the two, if one has to go, I'd say Snyder goes.
