I think snyder should stay, hes trying his hardest to look good in games. 1. Sura 2. Lucas, even though hes still pretty good 3. Landry 4. Butler 5. Novak
Jersey number should be between 0-14 to make the team (with a few exceptions) #0 Aaron Brooks #1 Tracy McGrady #2 Luther Head #3 Steve Francis #4 Luis Scola #5 = Shane Battier (#31) odd ball number #6 Bonzi Wells #7 Mike James #8 = 4+4 (#44) Chuck Hayes #9 Justin Reed #10 = 5+5 (#55) Dikembe Mutombo #11 Yao Ming #12 Rafer Alston #13 Kirk Snyder #14 Carl Landry ------------- #3 Bob Sura #15 John Lucas #19 Mike Harris #20 Steve Novak #40 Jackie Butler Bob Sura misses the cut because SF3 stole his number. John Lucas (#15)just misses the cut because Aaron Brooks was smart enough to pick the #0. That leaves 3 slots for #5, #8, #10. 8 and 10 are taken by Chuck and Deke by adding their individual jersey digits up respectively. Shane must have asked JHo to take his slot cause his jersey number doesn't quite add up...
they not cuttin Reed...he got the experience, heart, and he's getting more money then some of the unprovens. He never plays bad when he's in the game, always hustling trying to make plays on d and take the charge, on offense he's got a 18 foot range, is creative, grabs a lot of offensive boards and will be first down the court on a fast break. i don't know about the others cuz league pass doesn't show preseason but Jackie Butler gets it done in 2k8 at least.
-sura is guarantee to be gone -Novak is done too, he seems to lost his 3pt touch -synder, he looks so un comfortable out there (and he's too espensive to be cut, trade is more likely) -Reed, done and gone -Jl3 - bye bye
looks like Sura, JLIII, Butler, Reed, Landry. Butler and Reed are expensive cuts, but if Reed can be traded for a future second round pick or two (similar to the Snyder trade), he's not that expensive at about $1.5 million. Landry can also be traded for yet another second round pick. Butler's just filler that was included in the Scola deal and the Rockets will just have to eat the last year on his contract. Scola's the new backup center this year.
my final opinion is that the following players will be traded /Cut/playing in the D League-- Butler, Sura, Snyder, Lucas and Landry.
I am saying that they will cut both. They signed Landry b/c they haven't seen what they have yet, in him and the other new players. They already spent an mil for the pick, so get him signed with as little guaranteed cash as possible and see how he does in camp and preseason. Most likely cut him because since we have drafted him, we have added Scola, Francis and Butler who have taken those extra roster spots that would have gone to him.
If there are no trades, the cuts will be: Sura, Reed, Harris, Novak, and JLIII As I see it thus far, there are 10 players who will actually see the court on a regular basis: 1) Yao 2) T-Mac 3) Battier 4) Hayes 5) Alston 6) Scola 7) Francis 8) MJ 9) Bonzi 10) Head (I'm not suggesting an order of those 10 - just that they'll play) Then I'm confident that Deke will make the roster - he's still the best true center back up we have for Yao and we went out and resigned him late in the off-season: 11) Mutumbo So that leaves 1 spot for the active roster - looking through the list we have at least 3 players who can play point (Francis, MJ, Alston), 3 who can play shooting guard (T-Mac, Head, Francis), 3 who can play small forward (T-Mac, Battier, Bonzi), and 3 who can play center (Yao, Deke, Scola - so far anyway). But we only have 2 who can play power forward - Hayes and Scola. So I would think our 12th spot would go to a back up power forward - since Landry is a power forward we are high on and we just signed him, I'm thinking he gets the last spot: 12) Landry So we have 3 spots left on the inactive roster. There is no way we cut Brooks - he was our first round pick. We need a backup center just in case Yao gets hurt - so I guess that means we keep Butler. That leaves 1 spot for Sura (who is obviously gone), JLIII(who wants out), Harris (who I like, but doesn't have a fully guaranteed contract), Reed (who was a throw in on a trade) and Snyder and Novak. If I have to choose between Snyder and Novak - I think Novak hasn't advanced enough and doesn't have a complete game, so I choose Snyder for his athletitcism (besides you have enough 3 point threats on this team anyway) 13) Brooks 14) Butler 15) Snyder Which means you cut: Sura, Lucas, Harris, Reed, and Novak
Gonzo: 4 Must Go JL3 Sura Snyder Novak JL3 has shown some basketball-playing ability, but it has become increasingly obvious that, as decent as he is, and as well as he played in SL last year, he doesn't bring enough to the table to be able to make the team any better for his being on it. But there was a lot of interest in him last year, hopefully DM will be able to get at least SOMETHING for him - problem is, everyone knows we aren't going to keep him, so more than likely we just end up cutting him. Sura is just a name on a roster at this point. It's too bad we only had this guy for a little while in his career - same with Barry - it would have been nice to have had those guys for more years. Lots of heart and determination, fire even. But this cut is a given. Snyder is a good athlete, obviously. And it just looks like the guy is perpetually snakebit in that he never can catch a break to be in the right situation at the right time, or to stay healthy when he does have a legit chance to solidify his spot. As it is, just just looks lost out there on this team, and he ought to be let go or traded, hopefully to a team where he will get some legit minutes and really make himself into a bona-fide NBA player. He has been a stand-up guy as far as I have been able to tell, and I think he deserves it. It's just not going to happen here. Novak. Novak, Novak, Novak. Sigh. Well, it was worth a shot, didn't cost much, and he will probably be able to make a decent living playing overseas. He, like JL3, simply doesn't offer anything to this team that it doesn't already have in abundance, and his deficiencies defensively make him too much of a liability for him to get floor time ahead of half-a-dozen other guys. It's too bad, because I know we all had visions of Air Bull 2.0 dancing in our heads. But it just ain't gonna happen. As far as Landry goes - you guys need to have more faith in Morey. One thing he has shown, he is not stupid. Remember what drives DM - his attention to detail, and a proficiency in finding value where others have not. There was many objective evaluations after last years college hoops season that had Landry placed as the most productive player at his position, period (and I don't mean scoring only, I am talking about a whole wide range of stats). And with as much depth as this team has now, it can afford to stockpile some of these guys, and spend a little time developing them. It's a gamble worth taking, and if it doesn't work out, then no biggie. But you know DM is not going to give up on Landry any time soon.
I think we need to keep two of the following four borderline players... Butler Harris Reed Landry ... for frontcourt insurance. Scola and Hayes are both prone to get into foul trouble. We also need to have sufficient backup in the even that we lose any of our big men to injury. We have 20 guys competing for 15 spots. I see the following cuts, starting with the most obvious: 1. Sura - no-brainer 2. Lucas III - would be a nice keep but too many guards ahead of him 3. Novak - great shooter, absolutely nothing else, not NBA material 4. Landry - similar to Chuck Hayes, don't need two Chucks, wasted pick 5. Reed or Harris - better man stays, coaching staff decision
I think the only guys they will end up cutting ( at least that they can live with) are Sura, Harris, and maybe Novak. I think the rest will be by a trade. People like Reed and Snyder, even JL3 you can't just cut, they make too much money. DM indicated that he was trying to make trades to trim the roster and we won't see it cut down to 15 until they absolutly have too. I still think he might be able to swing trades for Sura's contract and JL3 for a draft pick. With the Rockets over the cap, I can't see them pulling a good two for one type trade without getting a fat salary that they can't dump. If it's a good player then obviously you don't mind swallowing the cap money, but overall I don't see it. I don't want to see Harris get cut, but to be honest I think all the cuts will be more money moves than anything. They all are trying to make the team and I think Harris would have to be head and shoulders above Reed in order to make this team.
McGrady, Yao, Battier and Alston. After last season's flop, we really need to revamp the starting five. Getting rid of those contracts will also bring us under the luxury tax threshold and we can make make a bid to bring back the european TMac. That's the real reason VSpan returned to Greece. A guy with his talent deseves a max contract.
obviously u dont know anything about basketball. Harris is good and wont be cut. They should cut you from this forum!
Please. Harris is trying out for all the other teams in the league except ours during this preseason. Looks like he will be a decent bench player for somebody, but he would be totally wasted here. He would never see the floor, and he has been around the league long enough to be able to do more than that. Again, unlikely that anyone will give us anything for him, since teams know we have to trim 5 guys from the group as it is. He will be wearing an NBA jersey this year, but it's not going to be saying 'Rockets'.
