Ref made the right call on Melo's 3. You need the audio to check it: Whistle blew on Harden's first jab, before Melo made the slightest move to shoot. Ref's hand was down emphatically the whole time, but Melo ignored it and turned and shot.

The problem isn't with this call. It's with 48 minutes of Harden going to the line every time on "continuation." In less than 3 years, there will be a "Harden rule" to crack down on this.

no it's not flagrant unless you use excessive force. In last min you can intentionally foul without getting called flagrant. Unless you bear hug and pick Melo up and throw him down, I don't see any bear hug can be an excessive force.

Harden goes into the paint to score though, when he's fouled he's already in the air a lot of times. He led the NBA in and1s he's doing nothing different than what Wade or Lebron does. If defenses want to stop Harden you keep him out of the paint.

Er, not true. The rule states that the shooter can't cross the line when the ball is in the air, while the other players can't enter paint until the shooter releases the shot.

i knew it would work. We should have fouled Anderson last game. He was so hot even with a defender on him. Lin was just to short. It was like a 4th grader playing defense on a 5th grader with 3inches over him. Lin should have gone to get that ball on the lob pass and try to jump and go for it . At least to get the ball out. Or just jump to get a 50/50 ball on the air. And even with a foul on the 50/50 on Lin i would have taken that.

I'm glad Harden took that foul. he did slap Melo's arm when he got control of it and if he had waited we would have lost because of continuation and even if he defended Melo straight up, that ball would have gone in and another over time.

We should have foul against Toronto too.
Against the Lakers it was all parsons fault passing it to howard on the inbound

The foul shooter cannot cross the line until the ball touches the rim.

yeah, the ft shooter can't pass the ft lane before the ball hits the arch or back board of the basket.

Hmm I thought any foul not going after the ball is a flagrant but I guess I'm wrong.

correction, if you want to stop harden, you have to stop him at the 3 point line, before he gets a head of steam

Side note, but its pretty obvious now that 2Pat will be a Rocket again next year right?? He should fit right in to their mid-level exception. Hopefully its just in a backup role though and they have acquired a top flight starter though. Would love to see him back with the team next year as a backup.

Hack a Howard doesn't work after the 2 minute mark. If other team tries to hack Dwight with less than 2 minutes on the clock then Rockets gets to choose who takes the free throw.

(Though its still possible even a good free thrower on our team misses one.)
