How is it a bad trade? Marquis never got playing time in Dallas to begin with. KVH is gone, and Croshere is a good replacement for him ... a nice banger PF with some shooting range. I don't see how this trade has anything to do with Mike James.

Not really. It does mean that Avery wasn't too enamored with Daniels. He didn't like his inconsistent play nor did he like Daniels' laid back attitude and lack of intensity. The kid Auger is more in line with the type of player that Avery prefers.

IMHO, the Mavs want James as a replacement for Jerry Stackhouse. If that's the case, then he'd get a good deal of playing time as their 6th man.

What seems to get to me is this. The Rockets are over the cap and I don't know how? I know all the past bad deals that we have made have hurt us but we haven't made a bad deal since 2001 if I'm correct right? Maloney,Taylor, Rice are off the books right? Plus Wesley,Bogans,Barry, came of the books this offseason and that gave us another 6 or 7 million in space right? I mean in 2005 our total roster cost 57 million right? Dallas total roster cost over 87 million right? Yet it seems Cuban has more money to spend every offseason. Why is this I mean the Rockets are making money to but it seems like Les won't go over that lux tax. WHY?!!!! We'll see if James signs I hope he does but if not give the TE to Fred Jones first or Marcus Banks second and lets move on. Go Rockets!!!

The pacers has been craving to sell Austin Croshere for years. And I think Daniel is worth more than a role player. At least, he used to say that he is the best center in the western conference.
That is the heart right there.

I don't see MJ here with the Rox. The guy always wants the ball.

    1. The cap is low. Every year, only a few teams in the league are under the cap. Using the numbers you mentioned: 57 million - 7 million - 50 million which is still over the cap.

    2. Our payroll last season was actually well over 60 million. The reason why we didn't pay the luxury tax was because we waived Weatherspoon under the amnesty clause. However, his salary still counted against the cap...and I think we had a few of other waived players as well.

    3. Even with everyone you mentioned coming off the books, we still have $55 million tied up in contracts for next season. Yao's max contract has kicked in. He and Tracy together make $29 million. Since the cap is usually set under $45 million, the 9 other players under contract put us well over it.

    4. Mark Cuban has more money than Les Alexander. Both the Rockets and the Mavs have comparable team values at ~400 million. Outside of the NBA though...Cuban's net worth is more than 20x greater than Les'.

Maybe I'm giving him too much credit by saying this, but Mike James isn't stupid. As big as his mouth and ego is, he'd be dumb to go to Dallas if all contractual values are the same. What, he thinks he's going to get major minutes and shots when he's pretty much the 4th option behind Dirk, Terry, and Howard? And lets not forget about Stackhouse. He'll be 4th option at best. He should know that Houston has two of the best players in the league and two of the most unselfish players in the league that will pass to him without a second thought.

I think he's still heading here. He's just listening to all these offers to swell his ego moreso.

I would normally agree with you but I think Cuban has something up his sleeve. He wants Kenyon Martin and he may be willing to give up stackhouse or Howard to get him.

I agree, Houston would be a better team for Mike James. In addition to what you mentioned, the fact that he lives in Houston and his wife's family is in Houston should also be a big plus. The only thing in Dallas's favor is they are a better team with a better shot at the NBA Championship. But Mike James already have a ring from his stint with Detroit, so that won't be as big a factor for him as for some other players.

Randy Mcalvoy of Ch.2 talked with Mike James on the phone today. James said he meet with Avery Johnson and Carroll Dawson today. He will not make a decision today, most likely on Wednesday.
