    I don't know how anyone can fault the people who resisted Amazon's HQ2 in New York. NYC has had rapid growth in tech jobs (from Silicon Valley tech companies) for years. Twitter, Facebook and others have been expanding footprints in Manhattan for years. Amazon was always going to hire workers in New York. The HQ2 campaign was just an attempt to extort money from local communities to subsidize that growth. Amazon already started leasing space in New York after that whole debacle.

    Hell even here in Minneapolis, Amazon has an office with a few hundred developers that designs Amazon's last mile delivery technology (and some AWS folks) in addition to a fulfillment center in one of the suburbs. There's no need to go around giving away tax revenue to attract Amazon. They'll keep adding fulfillment centers as they grow and the tech jobs will come if you have the right local talent. None of that requires subsidies or huge tax breaks.
