Indifferent seemed to be the way I felt you percieved it ("This kind of thinking is exactly the numbness to these kind of acts that needs to be prevented."), my apologies if I was incorrect in assuming that.. but is it a long reach to associate "numbness" with "indifference"?

What happened to Yusuf Islam was a calculated public relations ploy designed to garner exactly this world wide press coverage. It is intened as a message to all well-off Islamics, to let them know that big brother knows who you are, where you are and what you are doing. A little inconvenience for 200 travelers is just the cost for getting this message out.

You may agree or disagree with the cost/benefits of selective harrisment, but don't think it was a real 'security threat' descision.

I would say it is a different thing, because I, myself, have to admit that, as horrible as this is, get numb (in a sense of resigned to the fact that these things happen) when I watch the news of these horrible acts. I remember that the first time it happened, I just could not believe it and I was so shocked. By now, I am still disgusted and feel sorry, but not as much anymore as in the beginning, just because it has happened before. This is what I meant by "numb".

I guess that is pretty much what Batman meant, I just got hung up on him saying that he thought what happened with Cat Stevens/Yussuf Weirdo was the "craziest thing that happened all year" because I think that even though it is a very weird story, the craziness of these extremist bastards cannot be topped.

I don't think at all that he meant (I hope he didn't) that he was indifferent.

I'm kiiiiinda glad this hapened. It proves to me what kind of bull**** is going on, because I know this guy, and I know he in not a threat to anyone's life.

Well, if his views are close to yours and adeelsiddiqui's AND he funds organizations which are suspected of supporting "Jihad" activities...

Should they ban you from Islamic countries becaue you buy Starbucks and starbucks is owned by a jewish guy?

Jihad is the truth SJC. Any Muslim who doesn't believe in Jihad, doesn't believe in the Qura'an.

It says in the Qura'an that Jihad will happen. It says it, in words. If a Muslim denies it, he is denying his God's prediction.

No one FUNDS Jihad. Jihad will be fought with swords, so what point is there funding terrorist organizations?

He believes every word in the Qura'an, like me. Every single detail. That's the way it's supposed to be. No half-assing.

Just because YOU don't believe in that, doesn't make YOU right.

This thread is a perfect example of the bad thread I posted in the poo flinging thread.

I'll leave both sides out but point that Mr. MEOWGI has been a wonderful Side C'er, the only one who seems to be debating the topic.

That's poor reasoning. OJ Simpson was liked by most and considered a friendly guy, before "the incident". The 19 sacks of **** terrorists who flew planes into the WTC and the Pentagon were widely liked and friendly to others at their flight schools. If Yusuf Islam is funding organizations with links to terrorists, I don't want him in the country.

I don't know, but it wouldn't surprise me very much.

Could you please expand on the concept of Jihad as you believe in it - I would like to understand what it is you believe in there, preferably in your own words. Thanks.

quran never mentions jihad in the sense we hear it today.

that happened when the muslim armies were busy taking over the world...they used the battle cry of jihad.

in the quran jihad isn't ever used in a violent sense.

Putting aside the fact that they're accusing the guy who wrote "Peace Train" of terrorism...

Anyone else want to know how a guy on "THE LIST!!!!" was even allowed on the plane to begin with? I mean, how effective is "diverting" the plane going to be if he had a bomb? Purely hypothetical...

He sure put out some great albums though.

    Tea for the Tillerman
    Teaser and the Firecat
    Mona Bone Jackson

Am I supporting terrorism if I buy or listen to his albums now?

Now I've been happy lately, thinking about the good things to come
And I believe it could be, something good has begun

Oh I've been smiling lately, dreaming about the world as one
And I believe it could be, some day it's going to come

Cause out on the edge of darkness, there rides a peace train
Oh peace train take this country, come take me home again

Now I've been smiling lately, thinking about the good things to come
And I believe it could be, something good has begun

    Oh peace train sounding louder
    Glide on the peace train
    Come on now peace train
    Yes, peace train holy roller

Everyone jump upon the peace train
    Come on now peace train

Get your bags together, go bring your good friends too
Cause it's getting nearer, it soon will be with you

Now come and join the living, it's not so far from you
And it's getting nearer, soon it will all be true

Now I've been crying lately, thinking about the world as it is
Why must we go on hating, why can't we live in bliss

Cause out on the edge of darkness, there rides a peace train
Oh peace train take this country, come take me home again

It will come to ppl more of a shock when a brother like Mr. Olajuwon is not allowed for entering USA, on his way back from Jordan, and then deported citing reaspns that the mosque he built somehow, somewhere created a terrorist, and hence he is directly creating and harboring terrorists.... Its pathetic, because other than that one accidental incident, he has created a real nice school for students, and a very beautiful mosque for everyday muslims.

    Adeel,

Hakeem is a citizen of this country, he has rights....non citizens do not.

Just like the Palastinians in most Arab countries.

the palestinian remark was a cheap shot...

btw what country is Mr. Stevens a citizen of?

Ok lets say hypothetically that Olajuwan goes back to being Nigerian, would that justify his deportation?

Cat Stevens, born Steve Georgiou in London, England, July 21, 1947, was the son of a Greek father and a Swedish mother.

    Just a regular guy.

I was on Ios, in the Greek islands, for about 10 days, and I found out that Cat came there often enough to be well liked, and that he sang in one or two of the cafes on occasion. I don't know if he had relatives or not, but we had missed him by only a couple of weeks. This was back in '82.

Off-topic, but Ios is known as THE party island and the one with the most promiscuous activity of all of them...

A beautiful place. I haven't been there in a long time, but it was not that touristy back then. ('82)

We stayed in 2 different places... typical places, for the islands, with white washed walls, and very cheap. One was 50 cents a night, and then we moved to one out of the village, above a beautiful little beach in a cove. It may have been 2 or 3 dollars a night. There were about 4 rooms that the family had for guests, and there was a veranda, where you could sit and stare the incredible scenery. It was late spring, and there were flowers everywhere.

At another beach, I remember a girl, in her early 20's, not Greek, who was giving windsurfing lessons to pay for her stay of some weeks. She was giving them topless, and was absolutely gorgeous. Watching her give her lessons to the people on vacation was marvelous. That was a great beach to hang out on, and catch some rays. I loved it there. I hope it hasn't changed too much, but I'm sure that's a vain desire. We were on the island before Summer, which makes all the difference as far as crowds go.

And we had a fun at night.
