Watching the A's-Mariners and Mark Gubicza just named his "perfect pitcher": Nolan's FB Blyleven's curve Sutter's splitter JR Richard's slider Didn't catch who the changeup was but it should damn sure be Maddux
Musgrove and Jordan Lyles are both off to great starts in Pittsburgh. Lyles feels like he has been around forever but he's still only 28.
He's the best defensive CF in baseball and it's not close. Sucks he plays for Oakland but I'm happy he is doing well
Defensive highlights do not equate to great defense (it's why Jeter has gold gloves). That's not to say Laureano isn't a good fielder, but we're gonna need a much larger sample before we call him elite, much less better than the truly elite defensive players. His arm is certainly elite though.
Trout may be the only current pro sports athlete that literally plays in a league of his own... he’s so good, yet his team so irrelevant, that he’s basically forgotten (but nobody ever questions his rank).
Just for fun, here's the dWar totals for CF: Trout (only 14 games) and Cain: .6 Laureano & Kiermaier: .5
I the meaningless early defensive stats category (which take years to actually normalize): Marisnick: 26DRS/year Laureano: 24DRS/year
We saw Jose Cruz make a similar throw except it sailed far into the stands (his was from left field). When asked about it after the game, Cruz replied..."Cheo (his nickname) strong".
Laureano has a wRC+ of 73. If he was in Houston’s roster we’d all be clamoring for them to dfa him. Only former stros playin well enough to be wistful about: Hernandez and Villar, who Id welcome over Diaz. Martinez and Davis, who both would be better than White. Musgrove and Morton, who would be welcome in the rotation. Hader, who would be nice to have in the bullpen.
Am I the only one always surprised he's only 27? Seems like he's been one of the best in the league forever.
Other than his initial blip of a late-season debut, he has been the best player in baseball from day one of being a true regular. Jio Mier? not so much...
Kind of like people have done with Jake for the past 4 years? That's who he would have theoretically replaced.
